Questions about stock 07 GT500 hood

I'm seriously considering the purchase of the stock 07 GT500 hood when I do my conversion. I had a couple of questions about it though.

Are the heat extractor vents functional, or cosmetic?

If they are functional, would there be any issues if the car was driven in the rain?

Thanks for your help
Mark

Yes, they are functional. About the only time you need to worry about water is when you wash it. Many are putting sponges under the vents to wash. I use duct tape on top.

Thank you Sandyman. I am pretty new to all of this and know nothing about hoods with heat extractors. I am curious how rain won't be an issue but washing can be. Does it have something to do with the pressure of the water applied to the vent area when washing? Sorry for the stupid question but I am a newbie
Thanks

I don't put anything under mine when I wash the car ... doesn't seem to cause any issues. I also don't have a liner installed but not sure if that wold make a difference or not ... The way the vents and hood are beveled it prevents most of the water from running in them. Also when driving in the rain I doubt any water even gets in them due to the aerodynamics of the car and the bevels ..

You will only have issues if you have polished metal parts on your engine such as a polished cold air intake, canton overflow tank, polished throttle body etc...... I had all of these at one time. No more polished cai, but still have the canton overflow tank and polished throttle body and they get water spots bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are keeping the stock black plastic tanks and stock throttle body you will be fine.

Thanks alot guys. I have no polished parts, so I'm good there. That was just the answer I was hoping for. Thanks again to everyone.

Hey GTMark052,

Are you going to be holding onto the parts you remove after the conversion? I'd be interested in buying your chin spoiler if you decide to sell it . I live in North Jersey, so I could come pick it up.

/hijack.

I'm going to try and get rid of these parts if I can. I already have spare (Magnaflow) mufflers, as well as the OEM wheels, GT front grille, and GT rear spoiler. Soon I will add the front facia, rear facia and hood to the list. LOL. If I keep this up I'll be able to build another car in 2009 So to answer your question "yes" I would be willing to get rid of the chin spoiler....and anything else
