Question..V6 to GT bumper Conversion 05
Question..V6 to GT bumper Conversion 05
So I finally found a screaming yellow GT rear bumper. My question is: Is all the hardware used for my V6 bumper thats on right now all I need to install the GT bumper? Or do I need more bolts or screws? Anybody have a link for install instructions? Im sure its not that hard even for a person that has no experience.
Installing a rear bumper cover is actually pretty easy. The biggest challenge I had when doing mine was to remove the stiffener from the V6 bumper cover and installing it in the GT bumper cover (or in my case the GT/CS bumper cover).
To re-install the stiffener you need either stainless steel bolts to fit the holes or you do as I did and get and use blind rivets.

have 8 screws with washers and nuts along with a drill ready before you take the bumper off.
use the drill to drill out the old rivets holding the wiring harness bracket on.
then use the screws in theyre place
works perfectly
just did it on my girlfriends 07 vert a couple months ago ..at least you wont have to run mid job to ACE hardware to pick up screws ;p

You'll also need an extra clip to secure the middle plastic bracket of the GT cover. The V6 cover only uses 2 clips. I'm talking about the brackets that are attached to the inside of the lowest part of your cover. I recently upgraded my wife's 06 V6 using GT take-offs. Below is a picture of my wife & son in front of her upgraded V6.

Joe, Replacing V6 rear bumper with GT rear bumper or replacing GT rear bumper with GT/CS bumper both require drilling out and replacing the rivets. It's only when replacing V6 rear bumper with GT or GT/CS rear bumper that you need the extra clip for the middle bracket. The middle bracket dosen't exist on the V6 rear bumper. It just so happens that I've done both conversions.
Interesting, when the Ford dealership bodyshop installed my GT/CS rear fascia, they didn't secure the middle tab...they bent it inside instead. My bumper has been pretty secure without it being used. Just throwing that out there for thought...
