I've done a search on this and found vary vague and differing answers. What is the widest tire you can fit on a 8" wheel? Some people said only a 255. I found some wheels that look really nice but they only come in an 8" format :bang: . From what I am told it is quite expensive to get wheels widened. Should I just look for a different wheel? Thanks for the input.

You may have found different answers but what you really need to do is figure out what tire you want to go with and look at the specs. It will tell you what size rim the tire will fit on.

For example, I have BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW-NT's on my car. 255's on 18x8 in the front and 285's on 18x10 in the back. The 255's have a recommended rim width of 8"-9.5". So, basically what the manufacturer is saying is they don't recommend these tires are mounted on a rim that is narrower than 8". If you do, not only can they void the warranty, if there even is one, but there is a potential safety issue.

If you look at the next size up, 265, they recommend a 9.0" to 10.5" rim.

If you want to go wider than 255's I suggest you look for a rim that is 9" wide.

Yeah, that is what I figured. I would definately like to go with a wider rear setup (say 275 or 295) and figured the 8" wheel would only hold a 255. Guess my wheel search continues.

On a side note. Anyone that is running 255's out back, how is the performance with these (ie, traction and such)?

BTW, I was looking at getting the Nitto 555's

My 2 cents, traction "and such" really depends on the driver. 255's would get good traction, just like 285's but if you have a heavy foot it is easy to break any of them loose and lose it around a corner.
