The factory headlights are sealed.

I have been to the factory where the headlights and tail lights are made and if I remember, they are sealed with a thermoset glue. I don't think there is an inner lense for the headlight, so if you remove the outer flat cover, the bulb would be exposed to the elements.

Regardless of how they are assembled, they are not meant to function in any way other than how they come from the factory - so, you may have to find some aftermarket units (like the ones you saw from CDC).

Yup and CDC hasnt mentioned anything like a release date, or if they are even going to manufacture them.

The real question is how long until these headlights get infected the dreaded "cloudy lens" disease. Methinks two years before your car will look like it has two cataracts.

That is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to automobiles!! If i were to be looking to buy a car and already start to see the humidity entrapped in the enclosure, I won't buy it. It's only going to get worse and it buuuuuuugs me terribly. :notnice:

Is it just me, or does the CDC pic look like they painted the enclosure, then replaced the cover? It doesn't look to be open like the classic models.

I wonder if you'll have to change the lens/headlight if you switch to a GT500 type front clip?

I have been looking for aftermarket headlamps since day 1. Up to now...nothing. I hate the cheezy plastic cover.
The biggest deal is the electrical changes in light draws from the stock. My custom shop says it will make the cars computer go "error" out. No one will touch it up to now.
Let's keep this open for any news.

The CDC was a one off.

Roush did something similar. I am intent on doing this to my car. I read somewhere that you need to heat the lamp slightly to loosen the glue on the lens. After your done painting it, you should reseal it with silicone.

This was posted for me a while back when I asked about this. Probably doesn't help, but here it is anyway.

There's a set of stock headlight buckets on eBay if anyone wants to experiment.
