Plasti dipped hood

So I dipped my hood. I can't afford to repaint the thing (thank you ford!) after all the paint bubbled and popped. So I sanded it down primed and painted it with "color matched" paint. Needless to say the paint looked like poop. I had a bra on it for about a year and I like the look of the old school matte black hoods so I plasti dipped it. I first tried to rattle can it but no matter what you could see the spray lines. So did some research on how to mix and spray it with a HPLV sprayer. I ended up buying the cheapest POS sprayer and layed it on THICK right over the rattle can dip. It leveled out and looks **** good. This is really just my plan-B until I can replace the hood. So let me know what yal think. Name: AAA36E38-7C3B-4EF6-BC32-C36FE52DA645_zps7phnbiml.jpg

Nice paint job by the way. What did you buy and how long did it take you to do it?

Thanks Jazz. I used this--- http://www.harborfreight.com/electri...gun-60446.html
It's the cheapest POS you can buy. I sprayed the hood about 5 times with spray cans and it always came out bad with spray lines and blotches. So I mixed my own Dip ( I used the 14.5oz Plasti dip cans, Naptha thinner and Toluene thinner. I looked up the mix ratios on youtube. I made a thin mix and sprayed it on thick. It looked like crap but it eventually leveled out and ended up looking freakin GOOD.

Awesome job!

I really like the scoop's striping, that really is a neat approach.

I think it looks awesome, especially with the color of the car, they're ,made for each other.

Keep us updated on how it holds up.

Thanks a lot guys. I was real worried about how it would turn out. I didn't want it to look like a teenagers car.

I think the blacked-out hood looks great....reminds me of all the 60's muscle cars that had the same treatment. And the hood scoop treatment is exactly the right touch.

IMO, leave well enough alone. A painted roof and trunk might just end up looking like a teenager's car.

This is what I've been wanting to try. I'm going to start with the roof. Personally I like Dip to accent, not do a whole car and Mustangs always look good with two-tone patterns.

You can always try the hood or the trunk or both... REMEMBER... it's Plasti-Dip! You can always peel it off if you don't like it, and it only costs the price of materials!

I'ld look at doing the hood, roof, and trunk and rear panel with flat black wrap come Spring 2015 ..... and keep the yellow accent on the scoop front. See how much it'ld cost?

But it'ld still look good just as you have it, just more durable I think in a wrap.
