Another question I have is: If you use the cut out spot in the frame like it says in the instructions to jack the car up then where do you place the jack stands.

I just bought a better one from the craft department at Wallyworld and it worked great. I'll be doing the same on the 'Stang when we get new wheels for it!
Is that what you call Walmart? All I can think of is Chevy Chase driving across the U.S. on a summer vacation in a godawful station wagon.

Somehow I always figured that was an Arizona thing. Most people I know here call Walmart Wallyworld. Some, however, call Walmart things that the profanity filters definitely would NOT like!!

[. I painted one caliper, then the next. By the time I made a full round, the first caliper was dry enough for the second coat. I waited 24 hours, put the decals on, then the wheels, and drove off. I did it back in Dec, and have had no problems.
Did you do this inside, I assume, in December?

Yup, I did it in a garage. Left it there over night.

I placed the jack under the frame (?). Not sure if that is what it is. But if I have to transfer to a jack stand, I will put the jack under the piece that I think is part of the frame. I don't do that often, but I have done it a couple times on my other car. I have never had a problem with that.

I always place the jack stands under the frame. When I do mine I will be using 4 jacks stands. Lift the car up with a floor jack and place the stands under the frame at the front. Lift the rear, place jack stands under the frame and then remove all 4 tires. Do all 4 brakes at once, let the car sit a day and off to the races I go

I am glad to hear others do that too. I was waiting for someone to say that is the worst thing you could do.

Is anyone concerned about driving the car with bare metal calipers before they get a chance to paint them? The snow is starting to melt around here, but the roads may not be completely dry until I get a chance to get the car inside to paint the calipers, and I am itching to drive it.

Comments?

I have been driving my car since November. The original paint on the calipers is wearing off. I'd say I have no concerns. I am going to clean them up really well before I paint them.

Thanks. I thought the factory calipers were bare metal, but if they are painted, then a little wet 'before-Spring' driving shouldn't hurt that much.

I'm chomping at the bit to get this steed on the road.

Cheers

First jack the rear up under the rear diff. place jack stands under the frame. Next jack the front , using only one side at a time place jack stand on that side of thr frame and go to the other side and do the same. Take all four wheels off and calipers apart. Leave the piston part of the caliper connected to the car, while taking the "frame" off (frame meaning the part of the caliper that does not include the pistons). Tape over pistons and wheel wells and hang the caliper in a way in which you can paint them. set all four "frames" on the ground to paint. I know it might sound cheesey, but I used paint from a local auto parts store. Just be sure to get the 1200 degree paint. I used three coats, waiting about 30 minutes between coats. Then waited 24 hours and put it all back together. Then drove around for about 2 hours, because the directions say to heat them for an hour or two at 300 to 400 degrees for best results. Hope this helps

on the rear use the rear end and on the front use the frame to the inside of the cut out (look further under your car and you will see it). It also connects to some suspension parts in the front

OK, shame on me for actually reading the owners manual but it is very specific and says do not jack up the car using the differential. I've done that on other cars myself but Ford warns against it on the new Mustang.

Hubby painted the calipers on my Stang yesterday...I think they look great!! Found the paint at Wal Mart in the automotive dept. Followed instructions...used the jack found in the trunk. Can't wait to drive the car tomorrow. (Got through late afternoon)

Bending the axle housing as they are considerable weaker than in earlier cars.

I have been wanting to do this also. Anyone know what colors these kits come in?

My06Stang--Where did you get that Pony decal, and won't it burn off or something?

I could only find the red in Duplicolor kits , but maybe their web site may have others , as I want to go Ford blue with the White.
