I hope I don't get banned for this. I had a crazy idea and that was do you think you could paint a vert top? I had wondered if so could it be done in camo. Not the hunter kind (I don't hunt) but the new kind that the Army is using in Iraq. I think the parchment top painted the new camo on the black vert would be just sick. It could be a tribute to our troops over there or do you think they would be knocking on my door with cuffs? BTW I have never been accused of being real smart. or :notnice:

I don't think it can be done and have it last for more than a day. You'd be better off going to a custom shop and having them make you a top out of the fabric you want... if that's even possible.

The words "PAINT" and "convertible TOP" should never be used in the same sentence.

Sure they should:

Do not ever paint a convertible top.

I agree with the majority. It's a good thought, but a bad idea.

But, if you REALLY want it done... you could probably get it dyed somewhere

Just get a removable hard top later. I'm sure someone will build one eventually, and then you have the best of both worlds.

Don't ever paint a convertible top!

Good motive, Baaaaad idea.

There are some spray-on dyes for plastic auto surfaces like dashboards, but they wouldn't stand up to the flexing and stretching that a 'vert top gets, not to mention the top rubbing against itself when stowed.... Don't do it.

First off let me say I'm with the majority, this is a BAD idea.

Now for some practical advice, vinyl dye would probably work on the top and hold up over time. Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

If you're really intent on doing this, find a shop that does custom cars and have them make you a new top. That's your best route.

I remember reading about this in a miata magazine. It didn't hold for them either.
