Paint Match (Performance White) on Roush 1/4 Window Louvers
Paint Match (Performance White) on Roush 1/4 Window Louvers
Looking for info on the quality of the paint match of the Roush Rear 1/4 window louvers in Performance White. I had puchased painted set from another vender and the color match was "off". There were too bright or too white for the paint on my car. Any past experience good or bad would be appreciated. Vendors and prices would also be helpful.
I really think this is a question for the vendor. They really should be doing something about this, PW is PW and it hasn't changes from the 2005 version. I know this isn't what you were looking for but the painter is the one to answer this question.
To clarify my original statement, the louvers I purchased before were not Roush's.
Yes, the code given was correct. I selected the Performance White (code HP) from the dropdown menu choices. The company offered to repaint the louvers, but i honestly didn't think if would have made a difference as I'm sure the have the paint already mixed up.
I figured I'd try another brand this time. I also like the Roush style and a plus is that they are removeable for cleaning. Downside is they are even more Money.
Any thoughts, comments, vendors or prices are appreciated.

Well, not to offer it in someone else's thread, but ours are good enough for Ford Racing.... we painted these back in September for them.
HP is really not as "easy" a color as one might think though- it can flip a bit based on the clear, and it tends to yellow over time in some environments, and get more "chalky" in others. I have had decals on our 05 almost since we got it, and if you pull the decals, underneath it is a different color than what has been exposed to the elements for 3 years now. Not defending anyone's work (heck, maybe it was even ours...) but just saying that even "simple" colors aren't always that simple.

Marcello and Chuck I appreciate your comments.
I agree, as simple as you think painting something white would be, it is not. I had a white Scion tC before my GT/CS and the body kit did not match the car either and it was a factory part. But, the panels were ground level, not quite so noticeable. The 1/4 glass louver is right at eye level and it was a pronounced mismatch. Even my wife commented that they had to go back.
Marcello it wasn't your parts. As much as I like your style of louver (it's very clean looking) I don't want to try to install it myself, nor do I know anyone or trust anyone to do it correctly.
Right now, it is very much like Winter in the Northeast and the car won't come out again until March or later. So, I was looking for something painted that I could put on in my garage. If I can wait, I'll order unpainted and get them painted in the Spring......

No problem - After around 500 sets, I'm all to well aware about color matching... actualy that is normally the least of our worries, even on the metallics, which can be the worst.
On the install - it's not that bad, I think we've had over 300 customers do it themselves now, most of the rest just go to a window glass shop or a bunch go through Ford dealers who are "spicing up" cars for customers. I don't think we have any installers in your neck of the woods, JLT and DaSilva Racing both come to mind, but neither is close.

I ordered a pre painted spoiler for the roush front fascia a while back. The paint job was beautiful, but not quite right on the match. To make matters worse, i went to a body shop recommended by someone here on TMS to get the fascia painted and installed. It was only 400.00 for that, but now I see why. The match and workmanship was horrible. Now ,I am going to a custom guy and it's gonna cost me 700.00 to get the fascia and spoiler repainted so it matches
The money I've waisted w/modding this car is unbelievable.

Easy solution - buy ours unpainted and have the body shop doing the color match also do the install
Wow, everyone can be helpful on the Internet from 1k miles away
Seriously, whoever's you decide upon, taking the fuel door in for a custom color match will insure that the paint will be right, but it still will have a bit to do with the substrate / primers and the technique - so it's always something that can play into it.
And for the record, my bumpers didn't originaly match the car either (HP white) but after three years in the FL sun, everything is a matching bleached white.... and now the hood has to come off for warranty service on the underside of the front lip, meaning it will now be off in color from the rest of the car....

I think he meant that when looking at parts to make sure they match in color, make sure the sun is at its highest point. I know the sun creates weird angles and reflections and makes my car look different colors depending on when and how you look at it. So by comparing color matching parts when the sun is at its highest takes that anlge/reflection/shadow factor out.
Actually, most matches are not done by hand anymore, most are done by color matching photo eyes, similar to what they have in places like Home Depot to match any color for your walls. They start with the base mix equation, then adjust slightly from there to get the desired result. It's beyond me to describe the ins and outs of the software / hardware, but I know it works. Of course, the layup technique and prep / blending are still part of it too... so it never ends.
