Opinions on rear louvers
Just got the Aluminum Astro Hammond rear louvers in today. Did a test fit at work and got mixed reviews. Would like to know what other Mustang owners think before I mount them. Maybe they don't go well with the side louvers? Maybe by the time I add stripes it will be a bit 'too much'? Be honest... what do you think?

I like the slats on a fastback- my 69 has them and they just seem to belong- however I havent seen a set yet that I'd buy for the 06...the 69 has big metal hinges(not 'stick-on') and the louvers seal tight against top/sides of glass...the top 'louver' has rolled edges that sits tight on the glass- all the 05+ ones to date Ive seen sit way above the roof- from behind you can see the roof under the top slat...kinda like its not made for the car to me...theres a nice looking set on the pjsaleen, but in closer pics ive seen, think theyre that thick abs plastic...thin aluminum is much better- as if made right have very little effect on rear visibility- my 69 just has threadlike black lines across the rearview, along with the little rolled trianguar corners(those do limit a little, but not much at all). so I'm still waiting for a more 69-ish set to come out...even if twice the price, Id get a set...seriously thinking about trying to cobble up a set- a guy in columbus swapmeet had a bent set of 69 nos slats that I shoulda bought...cut the ends off, widen the top slat, make new progressively curved slats/weld onto oem corner pcs...looked fairly close at it, and each slat will need a different radius to look right- top is straight, bottom curves pretty good...then there might be trunklid issues that will require new hinges that pull rearward more than standard to clear the bottom...yeah- in my spare time...heck we're allowed to dream right?

Rear Louvers
I've had them on mine from MRT for about two years and they are great no issues.
Send me your e-mail address and I'll send you some pics of my 05 GT. I haven't been able to master posting pictures on this site.

I like the louvers, and they look good on your car, but they'd look better if you had more black. Black stripes would really compliment them, wouldn't be to much at all IMHO, and how about a Shaker while your at it. You get the idea. Good driving, Carl

hadnt looked at the pics- I think they look good. one suggestion to consider- a bit more black maybe? taillamp panel/lower bumper trim/side skirts... ok I'm a bit biased- thats how I painted mine
black on blue was always my favorite- but #2 would be black on white...I debated between ordering blue or white for a couple days- I think those look great on your white car- but a bit more black to tie it all together might not hurt. glad to see shr louvers+slats - Ive benn wondering also if might be too much. still not sure on that one...got me wondering about black insets on the shr louvers? maybe I'll try some black tape or something on mine just to see how they look with blacked out recesses- that might help a bit in 'matching' the slats, and might even look better just by itself...
do you have a rear 3/4 view pic- that would show the dark 'windows' in the sides compared to the slats- does it blend in better from the rear3/4 view?

Thanks for the comments everyone!
I am planning on black stripes in the near future. Think that would help tie things in. Had a few people say a hood scoop would really make it look good. Hadn't considered the scoop yet, now I may!

It took me a few days to really like mine but now the car just does not look right without them. I think your cars looks great with them. Theres a few pics in a thread titled cheap louvers.

They look great. I agree with the need for a little more black on the car. Stripes would really finish it off. I have always loved rear louvers on old Mustangs and they give yours that classic look. Actually, they don't look good. You should take them off and sell them to me at a huge discount, just to take them off your hands. $50? HAHA. JK. But great job, they look awesome.

Here's my biased (perf white) opinion.....get rid of all of those colored lenses Clear turns, and clear side markers would be cool. On the stripe question, what about a wide supersnake look with your rear louver and shaker?????

Here are some pics of my car, with the MRT rear louvers, I have C-Stripes, blacked out hood and a CDC shaker and chin.

John,
Thanks for the question on the louvers. Trying to decide on them myself. I have a 06 Windveil Blue GT. I think you have convinced me to go ahead.
Where did you order yours from?
BTW, your car looks great.

Thanks for the comments! You guys have some beautiful cars!! I went with black 10" stripes and 1/4" pinstripes, and GT350 side stripes. Ordered them last Thursday, just came in the mail today. LoL...anyone that has or does order stick on stripes has got to get a chuckle out of the size of box they come in!!!!
Rusty....
I got mine from Amazon.com....$229.
Couldn't get a page to link to...do a search for 10612 louver.

I have a set of MRTs and keep having problems with the brackets, thinking of getting these instead. How do they apply? all double sided tape to the window? hows the visability?

Yellow05,
They have 6 brackets that are double sided taped to the window. Two at the top are slip in brackets - the top of the louver pushed toward the front into a 'U' shaped 'clamp'. The other four have studs that stick up and nuts go over the louvers to hold them down. Takes about 2 minutes to take them off at the carwash, one kid to hold onto them while washing the louver and the window. My youngest is 12, so I figure I've got about 6 years before needing the hinged kind!!!! They were like $228 from amozon.com, free shipping.
By the way, now that it's been getting hot here, Arizona, they really do cut down on interior heat from the sun beating in the back window.
