Yesterday, I was driving on a very windy road with very little traffic (I live in a pretty small town), and there was a BMW Z4 roadster in front of me. When I got close to him, he decided to speed up and take these turns very fast. I have no reason to believe he wasn't taking them as fast as he felt comfortable doing them. And I stayed with him the entire way. Including a few fairly short straightways. Basically, the handling couldn't be much better IMO. I had my wife in the car also (she wasn't too happy) and even with the extra weight, I experienced very little roll.

I put BF Goodrich G-force All Season tires on the car today! 255/50/R17s.

Wow, what a handling differance! :worship: I have my claws back now.

I even test drove it with folks in the back seat to give additional feedback.

My perellis will go on my 02 coup in the spring. My fiance drives that and she does not speed, so I will not worry as much.

Mark, your tires are all season, but they're technically called:

Ultra-High Performance All Season Tires

Just incase people get the impression they aren't top of the line performance tires.

Had them on my Probe GT. Sweet tire. Very sticky and handle amazing. Just watch the wear, they seem to go quickly.....rotate, rotate, rotate.

and air pressure, air pressure, air pressure.... Air pressure and rotations are the most critical tire maintence issue.

Check with your tire guy for correct air pressure settings (he can look this up in a pressure substitution table - BFG is owned by Michelin, so they should have a book laying around in the form of a MAST guide with load/inflation tables). If the tires call for a lower pressure than factory to get the equivalent load, go with the factory reccomended air pressure setting.

One advantage to the strut front end and LRA chassis is a very though system to knock out of alignment. My 02 hasen't been into the alignment shop yet and I bought the car in novemeber of 2001.

Are those the beverly hills rims? I can't remember who makes them. They were on a black car recently and I want them

Those rims on the black car by GFG: 1,895$ for 19" a piece, for 20" 2,495$ a piece. No thanks!!! The one I showed is still very expensive about 780$ a piece. They are all three piece modular, lightweight and made for racing. At least this is what I was told.

That's too funny. Didn't even think about it until Dan called me on it. Good thing she doesn't read my posts, eh? :hiding:

WHAT! $2,495 a piece. That is nuts. I'll have to contact them and find out.

adrenalin: believe it. GFG is part of Giovanna Wheels. Italian forged wheels that practically invented the bling-bling wheel market.

Dan

I rotate my tires every 5000 miles. With every oil change.

My 03 had GoodYears and were pretty gone after 15 months. Still had tread but I could feel the difference. I rotated those puppies every 5000 miles.

I'd love meats as well, but the cost of the rims/tires as well as not being able to rotate them has made me decide not to do it.

Basically, you cut your tire life in half or more by not rotating them. Plus, the added cost of the wider tires.

So, if you can afford that sweet look, do it. I've decided to stick with some nice 18x9 with 255 or 275's all around.
Ya, same here too. 18X9's with 255's, all the way around!
Ditto.

I just purchased an 05 GT recently, and have been looking at maybe getting new wheels. My question deals with the offset of a wheel and what is the minimun in millimeters that will fit an 05 GT.

I am currently looking at 18/9 chrome Bullitt replicas with an offset of 25mm. Does anybody now if it will fit the new GT or not?

Oh yeah! One more thing.

What is the deal with the Bullitt replica wheels? I have notice the obvious (price difference), what about quality and performance standards? Is there something I am missing?

If anybody has any insight, I would appreciate it.

I like to take turns as fast as I can and my new tires do not give me the same feel as the Goodyears that came on my 03 Vert. It almost seemed that I could make 90 degree turns at speed. Illusion, I know.

While the car does not hop. And the rear end does not seem to break loose as much. It still rides differently enough to make me concerned about sharp turns at higher speeds.
Speed and the illusion of speed can sometimes be 2 vastly different things.

That is a slow car with unstable handling can make you think that your are going fast when you really are going pretty darned slow.

Specifically, I own a 2001 Mustang GT with those Goodyears on it. The Goodyears have pretty darned good grip (at least on dry pavement they do). It's a good thing though, as compared to other, faster and better handling cars my 2001 GT can be a handful.

ALL Mustangs from 79 to 04 have what I would call very "twitchy" handling. They have a pretty quick turn in feel, which is probably due to their short wheel base. But they are also what I would call somewhat unstable. The ffront roll center on the Fox & SN-95 generation Mustangs is very low, too low in fact. The rear roll center is very high. This creates that unstable "twitchy" feel which can create the illusion of "turn on a dime handling" when in reality you have to actually be going VERY slow to make a sharp turn with a 79 - 04 Mustang.

If you want proof, just go to an Autocross event and watch the poor stinkers who try running any of these Mustangs with stock suspension. They are embarassingly slow on an Auto-X course.
Even funnier, run the same course with an SVTF sometime. Versus my modded GT times....omg I thought I was going FAST in my old stang at the time...... :hiding:

Kevin

I do not PLAN on buying anything faster than my 05 GT.

Perspective does change with the new vehicle though. That feeling that you are on roller skates in the 05 is now gone with the wider and sticky bfg gforce 255/50/R17. Lane changes at 110mph are no longer as scary either when all of the other traffic is going 90mph.
