Couple questions

1) Would you guys buy tail lights if they weren't dot approved?

2) Would you buy tail lights that had reflectors but no white backup light?

thanks

1. Maybe (Europe might have different requirements).
2. No (again, Europe DOES require white reverse lights).

What new design are you referring to? Do you have any pics you could post?

If someone came out with a set of tail lights that look like the '99 & '01 Cobras or the true exort tails for '96-'98 Stangs, I'm in for sure!

1) Yes - if they were reflective and looked good to me (like the GTR or Shelby Concept lights)..

2) Yes - I would add a couple of mini-spots underneath the car and connect them to the backup light circuitry.

cop schmop yes and yes (IF THEY LOOK GOOD), but can you legally sell them, if you can create something that looks good that would be like the thinner longer lights that go further into the trunk like the old shelbies that would rock, I know some fabbing of the trunk but I am all for it.

I remember something that happened about a year or two ago (or more) where the feds made APC recall those ugly clear "Euro" taillamp assys that used a red bulb due to not being DOT approved. So no, you cannot legally sell non-DOT approved head/tail/turn assemblies in the US. :nono:

I think APC was selling it as DOT approved and it wasn't. You can sell a hovercraft mod but just say its not street legal do what you will with it. Just like tint in cars most people tint the front window and some say I will just go 50% in the front to get around tickets. Law says any covering of drivers + pass side is illegal.

1-It depends more on what they look like than whether or not they're DOT approved.
2. No.

The questions are WAY too vague. Need a description.

but the shops are held responsible, say for tint as in your example, a shop can be fined for installing illegal tint, and the fine is huge, you get busted once it pretty much stops you from doing it again, which by the way kills business because the customer will go somewhere that will do it

NO, because if there ever was an accident, the person with the NON DOT approved tail lights would get sued for everything they have.

Where do you think a good location on the gtr lights would be for a backup light without taking away from the look?
