Need Help with Roush Hood Scoop Install
Need Help with Roush Hood Scoop Install
I'm having some trouble getting the hood install parts from Roush. Seems they don't sell them direct, and none of the dealerships around here have a part number for the just the instal kit. And I can't find a download of the template on their website and can't seem to get anyone from Roush willing to fax/email me one.
So, does anyone still have their Roush template they used to install their hood scoop that would be willing to mail it to me? I'll pay the mailing fee both ways, of course.
Or, can anyone take some closeup shots of theirs so I can get an idea of where to mount it? And/or measure how far from the back of the hood the very rear part of the scoop is mounted. If I have that, I can 'eye ball' center it using my stripes and center 'crease' in my hood and center it between the two washers as well. It'll be harder and I'll have to measure everything a dozen times, but I think I can do it. But if I had a few measurements or the template that would really help.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you VERY MUCH for the loan of the instructions and the template. Installation went very easy thanks for the help! Also thanks to GRAYPNY for an awesome deal on the scope. Even the strip matched up pretty well.
Those seven holes seem enormous when I was drilling them. But, all is well in the end and it looks pretty good to me.
It's raining outside, so didn't get any good pics, but will tomorrow.

Looks great! Glad things went smoothly once you got all the hardware. Looks really good, and at least from the view in the photo, you can't see the stripe issue at all. Can't wait to see it in person.
Did you have to take the hood off to do it?

I didn't feel I needed to take the hood off and the instructions didn't call for it. You do have to remove the under hood liner, but mines been gone for years. I had some towels and leaned on the hood for support while drilling. Also put a sheet under the hood to catch metal shavings. Also used my shop vac to vacuum the metal shavings off the top of the hood instead of brushing/wiping them off since I heard that could scratch the hood, but blowing them off (or in my case, sucking them off) seemed safer.
I also used a tiny Phillips screwdriver and a dead blow hammer to make a tiny indention on the hood, used a small bit and drilled a pilot hole then went back with the (what looked HUGE) larger bit for the final holes.
Overall it was pretty easy. The hardest part was rigging up the hardware since I couldn't find any M4x.7 ubolts at any stores, I had to make my own from some 4mm bolts and u clips.
I might still cut the bolts off shorter under the hood and paint them with some touch up paint. And I'm still throwing around the idea of putting something on the side of the scoop, like 281, or 281SC, or something, but not sure.
So when are we doing yours?

Hey Brad PM sent glad I could help. Looks great. I love the striping on the scoop. I'm to lazy to do that on mine. Can't wait to see the whole car. Those little aluminum shavings were a PITA. The thought of one of those hiding and then getting in my wash mit scared the crap out of me!
Hehe, soon I hope! I have a feeling I'll be doing brake paint before the scoop, but we'll have to see how things play out. When I do get it, you'll be among the first to know. Of course that'll also be to shamelessly grovel for help.
What kind of beer is your fav again? Red Hook?
Btw, I was looking at my car today. And the top of my antenna was scared for it's life... lol

It'll take a while for the paint to dry anyway. Don't worry about messing up the antenna, I've got two stock ones that are brand new (mine and my old g/f's) we can practice 'chopping' as well.

Sounds awesome, dropped my car off at the dealership to get the odds and ends fixed, along with my gear issue. Hopefully everything comes out ok. While I was there they had a GT the dealership made up as a "Mach 1" package. Anyway among other things it had a CDC chin spoiler. Looked really good, might consider that instead of the CS bumper... Liked the Roush scoops on the ones they had there, definitely doing that and soon hopefully. Ordered the brake paint tonight.
