Unhappy

Getting ready to install my stripes and instructions say to wipe area with NAPTHA ten times!

Since I bought this stuff at Home Depot in the varnish remover/stripper section I am very worried that this will harm my finish.

Anyone use this stuff before? Am I going to ruin my 05's finish?

Thanks. They do list rubbing alcohol as an alternative and I think its the safer way to go. Doing the rocker stripe myself. If this goes well, I may do the Shelby stripes.

i used naptha 10 times, followed by alcohol and water. my sonic blue finish is fine. most places recommend alcohol.

i had zaino on my car before i applied my stripes so i figured i better make sure there was no zaino left where the stripes went. it worked out fine.

Sure it is OK. I used it on mine. It also does a great job removing road tar and tree sap.

I'm going through the same agony. I have the Boss stripe for the hood, but the thought of using Naptha scares the crap out of me--I bought a small bottle of isopropyl rubbing alcohol to use instead. I thought this was interesting reading:

Thanks. After hearing from a few of you I bit the bullet and used the Naptha. Happy to report that it had no ill effects whatsoever.

JW, no need to fear. Will post pics once I wash my car.

using naptha 10 times is a little over kill. Was the car using a little dawn liquid detergent. That will remove all of the wax. You really don't need to use rubbing alcohol either. If you'd feel better using it, just use a little but I wouldn't bother. Just wash it well, allow it to dry and start applying those stripes.

Cool. Humidity is supposed to break here in the mid-Atlantic soon, so I'd like to try this Friday night, and have it ready for a local cruise-in Saturday night.

But I have worse problems. I ordered a "factory replacement" spoiler prepainted in black to replace the factory red spoiler, but the holes don't line up. I have to drill new holes into my trunk lid. Talk about NERVOUS. Engines and drivetrains I can handle, body work on the other hand...
