dont know about other states but here in texas if you get cought with out a front plate the give you a ticket and if you go to court and show them a pic of the car with the plate back on then they will dismiss the ticket have one pic of mine from when i bought it using tape to hold it on and i use that pic everytime if need be in court, but you only seem to get cought once in a blue moon so it doesnt seem worth the time to make that plate flipper lol

see the problem with that setup. it folds down, no movement at all except for swinging down.... i saw that one , also checked out a few places and made so phone calls... but i think my idea might work better then the ones out there right now...

I don't know if you want to complicate the design with 2 actuators. I think it can be done with one, it's just a matter of how the bracket slides out and it. I think if you have rails that the whole assembly slides out on and have the actuator connected below the pivot point, once the plate hits the end of the rails, the actuator would push the bottom out, thus raising the plate to verticle. And for the return, first the plate would fold down, then the whole assembly would be pulled inward. It would take some tuning of just how far the actuator went, and how the rails slid in and out, but now that I've thought about it a little, I don't think the idea is that hard. The hard part will be either finding or fabricating the correct pieces.

Another problem though, is where to put it? There is a verticle bar dead center under the bumper, so it can't go there. You could put it below the lower valance in the center, that might work better. It would block some air going in that way, but if you keep it in when driving, that doesn't matter anyway.

Just some random thoughts as I eat lunch, they'll probably go away soon.

yea i have a idea about how to do that as well put i have to put it in to motion to see if it would work. one idea would be having a wheel that would turn at a certain point to make the plate turn up we will see the mouse in my head is turn laps at 190mph.. lol

well, I'm going to make an attempt at planning this out this weekend - I'm going to go to a couple hobby stores and a few other places to see what I can come up with. If I can make any solid plans, I'll post them up.

Thanks guys!

this would be perfect for going through our toll roads arround here. If you don't have a transponder...they take your picture.

no plate = no ticket.

heh.
