well , what i am trying to do in the diagrams it make something , that will slide forward using a actuator, thus the plate at that point would be facing down... then use the hinge to make a point where it could turn up 90 degress to a vertical point also using a actuator that would then display the plate correctly.... i am playing with some programs and tryin to put my idea in motion so you can get a better idea...

i know exactly what you're talking about and it's been done before...we were discussing it in another forum.

HTH - if you actually come up wiht something, I'd defiantely be interested (if it fits in the front bumper between the vertical divides.

What is this for? Is it to hide the license plate so police cant see it?

no need to repeat yourself!

anyways, i don't know about for others, but i think the front plate detracts from the look of the car. the idea here is that you can run wihtout the front plate up, but if you need to (cops are around or you get pulled over), you flip a switch and out it comes.

I don't know if you want to complicate the design with 2 actuators. I think it can be done with one, it's just a matter of how the bracket slides out and it. I think if you have rails that the whole assembly slides out on and have the actuator connected below the pivot point, once the plate hits the end of the rails, the actuator would push the bottom out, thus raising the plate to verticle. And for the return, first the plate would fold down, then the whole assembly would be pulled inward. It would take some tuning of just how far the actuator went, and how the rails slid in and out, but now that I've thought about it a little, I don't think the idea is that hard. The hard part will be either finding or fabricating the correct pieces.

Another problem though, is where to put it? There is a verticle bar dead center under the bumper, so it can't go there. You could put it below the lower valance in the center, that might work better. It would block some air going in that way, but if you keep it in when driving, that doesn't matter anyway.

Just some random thoughts as I eat lunch, they'll probably go away soon.

Is it legal to drive around with the front plate not visible?

Is the idea that you will flip it down whenever there is a cop, so that you dont get a fine?

I imagine the penalty if caught is probably impounding of your car isnt it? It sounds severe.

I ask because I would to get rid of my front plate as well.

For me, the idea would be to have the plate when needed, but hidden when showing the car. I don't want to drill holes in the front bumper, because I think it looks fantastic the way it is. Which is why I made sure the dealer didn't install a front plate bracket when the prepped the car.
