It's probably more like there's one right way to do this, and a million wrong ways to do it. Do it exactly right and you're OK, otherwise...

+1! Your right on the money with that. Done properly it will last, but the old saying "You get what you pay for" applys big time with this paticular mod. Can't short cut any steps!

Since this is a "show car", I don't think doing something like this is all that bad of an idea. Lets face it....all "big" show cars are suppose to do is get your attention, typically to showcase not really the car, but all the stuff they have added.

For a daily driver or a weekend car that I would be driving? Not in a million years. I dont care what others think...."done right" or not, I dont believe for a second this will last. Face it...its one type of material that expands due to heat AND cold, bonded to another type of material that reacts (expands and contracts) at a different rate since the materials are different. The fact is, there is no way it will last and look right if this car sees any sort of normal, daily weather. If it stays a trailer queen, I'd bet it will be fine for quite awhile. But sooner or later, its gonna start to require work to keep it looking right.

Thats the difference for me. Put a ton of mods on a car, shoot some wild *** paint with some typically guady design on it.....great, put it in a show or on the car show circuit. But to me.....they typically end up screwing up a great car.

Not gonna flame, but since you state The fact is, there is no way it will last I'm wondering what your expertise is on this. Have you tried it or spent much time researching it? I understand what you're saying, elementary science teaches you things expand and contract differently, but body fillers on cars last many, many years without problems. (and don't bring up the old Bondo stories of the 80's... I'm talking about when it's applied properly)

Im staring at a 69 Firebird that has molded wheelwells all done in fiberglass. This work was done twenty-five years ago, and it is the same thing fiberglass bonded to steel. No cracks or problems.
What makes you think the spoiler on the S197 molding will crack?

+1. It's fine for a show car or trailer queen. But the NVH of a regularly driven car coupled with temperature and humidity changes, will eventually cause some damage.

Again, does anyone have any first hand expertise, or are we just applying common sense from 5th grade science? Basic 5th grade science doesn't always apply when dealing with things that are more complex. For example, paint on sheetmetal doesn't expand and contract at the same rate as the metal, but when mixed and applied properly, the sheetmetal on a DD will rust before the paint shows signs of wear.

I posted the photos of the ducktail as I know people would/can appreciate the work. As for the overall tastefulness of the design concept im sure we all can agree to disagree
