mettalic vinyl stripes
#21
I actually did my own stripes and took a blade to my baby. Not quite as hard as watching someone else do it. But painful, nonetheless. By the way, since we are on the subject of cutting your car to install vinyl, and I have the attention of the Vinyl Guru, when I take my stripes off and have the body shop wetsand off the clear, paint my stripes and then re-clear, will the cut lines be gone? Even if the new painted stripes don't cover up where the cut lines were? Say if I wanted to make the stripes a little more narrow?

I can't imagine having to cut into the paint. I sure hope it is not necessary.
By the way dekujala, any pics of your car around here?

A good installer will slightly mark, I say cut they say mark, the clear coat. Impossible to cut through a piece of material without marking (cutting) what is underneath.
Acadian, to answer your question it all depends on how deep you cut into the paint. If it was just barely, a little wet sanding takes care of that. If it was too deep then after the car was clearcoated you would see a faint line under the paint.

Sweet, another opportunity to show off my Metallic Hi-Fi Blue Shelby Stripes:
One reason you can't use Reflective for stripes is that at night, some of your vehicle will glow bright and some will glow really dim, a combination that looks Bad with a capital B. Never get Basic (aka. flat) color stripes b/c when they fade after a few years, they'll like like poozu unlike metallic stripes -- they fade too, but you can't tell due to the metallic "shimmer" effect.
