install CDC ducktail spoiler and remove stock GT spoiler

hello all,

has anyone taken off the stock GT spoiler and added a CDC ducktail?

was it hard to cover the stock holes?

i had to take a car with a stock GT spoiler and was trying to convince myself to get a shelby gt500 spoiler but i truly think the CDC ducktail is the BEST looking spoiler out there.

if anyone has info on this, it'll be great! thanks!

It costed me $500 to get my stock spoiler removed, holes filled and decklid repainted. If your going to this route make sure you find a good bodyshop as I ended up having to take it back several times because of a poor prep job. After all was said and done I'm very happy with how the CDC ducktail spoiler looks. BTW-I ordered mine pre-painted.

If you don't want to go through all that and spend the money here's a couple of cheap options.
1)Buy this from CDC and paint it to match your car.

2)Get some plastic plugs and just make sure you seal them with silicon to prevent water from getting in your trunk.

I'd also suggest getting one of these 3rd brakelight replacements. It will keep you out of trouble with the cops plus if someone rearends you they can't say you didn't have a third brakelight.

Here's a few pics from various angles.

Another option would be to go with Fang. Can't tell from their website but they either take an existing trunk and mold a ducktail to it or supply a totally new trunk with built in ducktail.

Or you could go with the somewhat controversial look of a spoiler and ducktail combo.

The CDC has the lowest profile of any of the aftermarket ducktails, and I think this look can be pulled off with it (see below).

Change your order to spoiler delete or ask you dealer to change out trunk lids with another black car.

this is perfect Afblue. fang's ducktail design says it covers the factory holes from the stock spoiler!

i think this is the way to go. it also preserves the stock 3rd brakelight.

i will call fang on this spoiler to see what they say.

thanks!

Fang has two spoilers. One is molded into a new trunk lid and comes with the two side pieces. It's a bit expensive, $1049+ shipping and then you have to pay to get it painted and installed. The other is a bolt on that covers the factory spoiler holes.

There are several manufacturers that make ductails to cover the existing spoiler holes; Roush, 3d Carbon, Cervinni. In my opinion, these look very thick and clumsy as opposed to the CDC.

Street scenes has a duck tail spoiler very similar to the CDC ducktail but it has a cut out to reveal the third brake light so there will not be a need to replace it.

The picture that AFblue posted above was for the Cervinni wing spoiler with the CDC duck tail. This is a very nice combination. The cervinni ducktail is not as nice looking as the CDC.

hi odiaz, great info. thanks!

i also noticed that xenon has a ducktail type spoiler that also doesnt cover up the third brake light.

not sure if it looks as nice as street scenes or CDC.

from this, it looks like the street scene ducktail looks GREAT!

i think when i go to body shop, im going to bite the bullet and do whatever it takes to get the street scene ducktail installed...pay whatever my bodyshop charges me. Dang that factory spoiler!! LOL

Another option is to keep the factory spoiler with the CDC ducktail - I don't think it looks too bad...

Here is a link to some more pics...

I am seriously considering it - I talked to CDC about it and they said that there is about 1/2" clearance at the sides of the factory spoiler...

CDC also makes the same part with a cut out to accommodate the stock 3rd light. I have a CDC on mine, but I coverd the 3rd light.
