How to scare off stupid import ricers (V6 & GT owners) ....
First, I have owned many cars including honda accord, crx and many chevy, pontiac and ford cars in my life. My Honda CRX was one of the cars I most enjoyed. But I would never think of throwing a large muffler (loud) on it and a bunch of performance stickers, then throw on a body kit. Hey am old school here - I don't think street racing is cool. We use it race in my day near some warehouse district or dead end street. At least we would only endanger our lives and not some innocent bystander. Also revving your engine next to some (obvious) family man with family in tow is NOT COOL. and CRAZY.
Second, Ford Mustang owners have been converted their cars into Shelby's for years and is not considered rice (since it is in no way aftermarket mod). It is a factory upgrade mod. Its like converting a V6 mustang to a GT - its mainly a cosmetic change.
Third, am not entirely knocking imports - I was considering a Nissan 350Z before I bought my Mustang. Reasons for purchasing (PROS) - nice power to weight ratio, great base to build a 500-700 HP car, Nice factory looks, great handling. (CONS) - engine needed forged internals to get to this power, parts are more expensive than domestics, two-seater only. Base price more expensive than Ford Mustang GT. I do hold respect for import racers that are not cocky, don't feel a need to slap all those stickers on their cars (unless they really have sponsors - I forgive that), put their money in their engines (can put their money where their mouth is). And most of all know how to respect other people's cars - and know how to challenge someone to a friendly race (on a track) w/o having to rev their engine. Lower your window and give you the nod.
Fourth, I plan to mod my engine next year - am doing the cosmetic changes first. So its not like am doing my cosmetic changes to ward off all the imports around here. I am doing it because I like the looks of the Shelby and always thought the GT should have looked closer to the concept car.
The fake purge kit I like because its at least a way to tell these guys to back off am not stock (for the time being). I will then ignore them of coarse! I just hate to have some guy purge blast me and not be able to purge blast back !!!
