How to delete the lower grill?
Is it possible to do this without damaging the front end?

When you take out the lower grille, you will see that the two end openings are basically filled with a plastic backing. It's just a thin wall of the plastic bumper material. You could cut that out, sand everything smooth and then have the front bumper repainted. So, the answer to your question is yes, yo can do it... you will just have to get your front bumper re-painted.Depending on the color of your car, and whether or not the painter needs to fade into the front fenders, that will cost you $200-$300. Not really worth losing the front grille IMO.

I think it depends on the way or care you take to cut out that backing. I was looking at one of the turn key Ford Racing Mustangs in a local dealer showroom (on sale only $125k). and it looks like has a stock bumper cover, the lower grill removed (just unsnaps to take off) and the backing in the outer slots carefull cut out and not repainted. I had mine off to look at it after that showroom visit and the color coat goes all the way behind the lower grill.

The plastic grill will just pop out. Mine was painted behind it. Just be carefull triming away the plastic piece behind the two ends and you'll be good the go.

Of course you could just cut it and not paint it. It just depends on how much of a "perfectionist" you are. No matter how careful and straight you cut it though (as not to need sanding), you will still see the cut/unpainted edge where the plastic was. The correct way to do it is to repaint the bumper... like John did. You could even just use the factory touch-up paint to touch it up. But I personally wouldn't be satisfied with that, even with it being way down out of normal sight. That's just me though.

Just to clarify, I didn't paint the bumper, just the grille. Easier and cheaper. There's a decent how-to in the thread.

Here's my home-made lower grill along with the CDC Classic chin spoiler.

I actually used a dremel to cut out between the honeycombs on the outer portion of the grill. I wanted to open it up for the soon-to-be-installed intercooler as well as to show off all the pipes.



Yes, the car was filthy when I snapped this. It is much cleaner today...
