Finally got around to putting the hood pins on.

 

nice where did you get them from? Link?

 

American Muscle- the black ones- and they are the "appearance" kit, as I could not bring myself to drill holes in the hood. It took me long enough just to satisfy myself I'd measured correctly.

 

Dont know why, but I always loved hood pins...right up there with dual rear antennas
I got the 'ford racing' "stainless steel" pins...the ring is cheeply plated, was rusting/staining the scuff plates and pins every week had to clean them up... I put some silicone model airplane fuel line over the rings a couple weeks ago, so far still clean.
I dont know enough about the metallurgy, but would think those ring springs could be stainless- will find or make some eventually.
thinking about it again, I bet tractor supply has stainless springs on their 3 point pins...the ones on our tractor never rusted.
the pins tend to slide too- thinking about making some new 3-D scuffplates out of black delrin with a 'register' for the spring to snap over...need some reason to use that cnc mill out in the garage anyway

I know I lost all respect for 'ford racing' for peddling this cheep chinese junk

I have a set of the Shelby hood pins in my garage, just waiting for me to drill. I might be waiting for spring at this point though.

 

The black scuff plates blend in well with your stripes.

never thought about it, but I have:

plastic hood
plastic rear wing
plastic louvers
stripe
scoop
hoodpins

all thats missing is some 5" tips and a few stickers, the look would be 'complete' I guess

fake hood pins are rice. period.

 

some like the look, some dont- but I guess I can understand someone not wanting to drill a total of 12 holes in their car... like some like rear wings, some dont...I like the stock gt wing, but know it dont do anything but add weight and drag, might fit a rice definition too these days to some...
I was a bit nervous about drilling, mostly about chipping the gelcoat/paint , but aeroform had the pin spots premarked, so it was pretty easy for the big holes... what irks me as 50 bucks for a couple pins and after drilling the car find out the springs rust when they get wet...ford racing needs to shop more wisely if theyre sourcing from china.
the ford racing pins also come with sheetmetal screws for the plates- I think in a aluminum hood youd be asking for trouble. I put nylock stainless #8 nuts/bolts on mine, the 'glass has a hollow structure as the scoop blows between the layers into the airbox, so you cant tighten very much or you'll deform the hood. the scuffplates are also cheep stampings, the holes and outer edge are razor sharp- if not carefully deburred they would cut thru the paint. I do plan on taking mine back off and putting some thin doublesided adhesive, or maybe just a dab of silicone under so they cant slide at all with the bolt clearance- eventually that might scuff a ring around the plates too.
for what they are, its a kinda PITA putting them in, but with a glass hood the extra security was worth it...but I can see why some might want the look without the hassle...lots of stuff on cars is cosmetic.

 

I agree with the rice for pins and spoilers etc. Suppose we are all guilty of some ricing...lol.

My car launching pretty violently without hood pins. Since gone to an extreme lightweight hood (not for a street car) and hood pins (at least 2). Probably paint them the hood color, so that they don't show.

 

Just to clarify I don't think hood pins are rice, I think fake hood pins are rice.
