Honeycomb Tail Light Panel
Honeycomb Tail Light Panel
I saw a post a while back where someone attached the honeycomb tail light panel using magnetic tape instead of adhesive. From what I have read about what a pain it is trying to dry behind the panel when you wash your car this sounds like it might be a solution. Has anyone tried this and if so where did you attach the magnetic tape?

I did it awhile back with the Xenon panel, but not the honeycomb....Worked great. The Xenon panel came with 3M tape around the perimeter for attaching, so I just used that 3M tape, and layed the magnetic tape on top of it. But, the weight of the panel to me was a bit too much for the perimeter magnetic tape to securely hold, so I added four strips of velcro to it as well. This also secured the panel a bit better from a easy theft standpoint. Had it on for some time, and it was always nice to be able to remove for washing....or for just changing up the look once in awhile....

Just remember that 3M acrylic is what the OEM's use, and it does not cause any issues. I've seen cars where they had magnets on them and it damaged the paint, or worse yet caused rust to be attracted to that location. I'm sure you'll be taking good care of it so this shouldn't be a problem, but it is something to keep in mind. It's why we designed the drain holes in the bottom of the honeycomb panel, and also why we arrange the tape the way we do - so that anything that were to get in behind there has somewhere to go.
