Cool High Mount Brake Light

I would like to find/make a high mount third brake light that either goes inside of the back window or on the out side of the back window on a 07 Mustang…. I’ve searched online without any luck. Has anyone seen such? I know I can’t be the first with that idea.

Thanks,
Ron

I did this when I put on my CDC decklid spoiler.

First used a small LED strip which I didn't like. Then redid it with a larger one.

If you look in the Mustang of the Month thread, you'll see that it's completely invisible when not lit up.

BTW - Welcome to TMS.

EDIT: Also, mine would be much brighter but it's shining through dark window tint.

Thanks... looks like a great Mustang Community!!

Shotokan1590 - that looks like what I have know, I would like a light strip that goes from side to side.

05GT-O.C.D - what kind of LED Strip did you use? Are they available in longer lengths? Did you use any kind of housing on the inside to project the light outwards?

Thanks for the replies!

It is a great community here, the best Mustang site online IMO.

As far as my strip, I watched ebay and found it there. I THINK it's off of a Cadilliac, but I didn't see any longer ones when I was looking a few years ago. As far as a housing, no. The light projects mostly outward simply due to the design of the strip (I think it was originally designed that say), but I do get a glow on my red seats when I hit the brakes at night. Kind of nice really.
Whenever I put in my SilverHorseRacing flush mount window louvers, I used a product called 3M Window Weld to install them. It's the same stuff used to hold windshields in place. I ran a small bead of this stuff to the top of the LED strip and stuck it directly to the rear glass with the back of it against the headliner so you can see no wires and the LED strips black housing blends in perfectly with the painted black part of the frame around the rear glass (look at your glass and you'll see what I mean). One day I may carefully trim off some of the tint around the lamp so it shines through brighter, but the strip is pretty bright as is.
Sorry I don't have any more specific info on that strip.

Here you go.

I'm glad I went out there and took a closer look. I think I actually got slightly confused w/ how I originally had the smaller one mounted vs how this one is mounted.

As you can see, there is a small space between the back of the headliner and the lamp. The wire is right there but I've never seen it until today. The second pic I took with the camera back against the rear glass, further back than anyone's head could ever be. Really hard to get much better of a pic with that oh-so-roomy back seat.

I don't have these hosted anywhere, you'll have to click them to blow up the thumbnails.

Like the full width of the glass? May want to look at the led strips used for pickup trucks, they blink for signals as well.. of course there are a ton of them available so you would need to figure out perfect width and just how bulky some of them might be.

RedDragon,

Which one you going to get? I've been looking on line at different types... I haven't seen one that I like yet! I would like one that goes the lengthe of the back glass (45") but I've only seen them in 36", 38" 48" and 60".

Pretty cool. I have the CDC one as well with my ducktail spoiler. I love the fact it is not visible with the window tint and then you can see it when the brakes are on. Very stealthy mod.
