Has anyone installed a Ford GT500 rear spoiler?

Hey;

I just ordered a GT500 rear spoiler from GEF Racing. Has anyone installed one of these before? Is it a perfect fit? I'd like to install it myself, but if it's a pita, I'll leave it to the body shop.

Thanks

Walt

I ordererd my part directly from Ford. As I remember it's four bolts and some 3m tape. Knowing NOTHING about cars, if you've got a set of sockets and some googone (old tape), you can switch them in 15 minutes. Lines up perfectly, no need to align. Only thing to watch out for is overtightening of the bolts. This can result in some minor sheetmetal warping. You'll love this thing. I'd say the CDC is better looking but if you've already got the holes, this is about your only choice, and it's a pretty darn good one. Looks awesome in the rearview mirror imo. You'll lose a tad of rearward visibility, not that you ever had much anyway. Hope you like it!

Thanks;

It's all good to hear. I was concerned about the sizes of the holes in the trunk lid vs. the spoiler studs. I know that the 3m tape really sticks and I'll only get one shot at mounting it, so I want to do it right.

I also read somewhere that the nuts are tightened to 14 ft/lbs torque. I'll double check that before I mount it, but sounds about right.

Even though other spoilers are cheaper, I don't think I could buy anything else but the Ford piece. I don't want to worry about extra holes or possible warpage.

Got my GT500 spoiler from the same people. Install is not hard. Use a heat gun to loosen up the double sided tape from the bottom and start working the old spoiler off. Click on link in sig to see pics.

I hung an OEM GT500 spoiler on my '07. Install was cake. Getting the old tape

Guys;

What comes in the box? Does it include instructions? Mounting tape and nuts?

No instructions, no nuts. Mounting tape is already installed on the spoiler.

Looks like I may be wrong; the stock spoiler is 44ft/lbs, so I'm guessing that the GT500 item would be the same.

You were right!

I had it painted and installed last week. They charged me an extra $50.00 for the install; well worth it when you factor in all the varibles.

I like it more than I thought I would and it does look cool in the rearview mirror. Going with the FRPP part was well worth It!

I hope that was a typo above. The PDF file said 44 lb/ in. as in inch pounds not foot pounds.

I just ordered a GT500 spoiler from the Spoiler Store on Ebay. I'll let you know how it goes in two weeks when I'm home.

Thanks for asking!

Next up are FRPP shocks, struts and a Steeda G-track bar. Lately, my SVO has been a money pit, so I've been a little conservative with modding the GT.

As for looks? I'm going with the Cervini type III front spoiler and possibly a center-fog grill.

BTW, I'm still staring at the new spoiler. I'm really inpressed at what it adds to the overall look of the car. I'm going for a "road-race" look and couldn't have made a better choice. I'll post pics Monday. For some reason my home PC isn't seeing my camera.

I'm curious and would like to see a show of hands of all of those people who have bought the aftermarket version of the GT-500 spoiler(non fiberglass version) and who have experienced lifting problems at the corners.

TIA
