GT500 splitter scratch removal?

I have an unpainted GT500 splitter on my car. Being a retard, I managed to scratch it on a curb the other day. I'm thinking of sanding it with some low grit sandpaper, but does anyone have any better ways of doing it?

Other options:
  1. Use a random sander. High chance of ruining it further with that.
  2. Buy a new one... they're only $65.
  3. Leave it and continue to use this as a practice splitter until I can learn how to park, then go to option 2.

Option 2 but only put it on for car shows. If you don't enter car shows then install it after you've completely destroyed the first one.

I did this all the time, I just used a block sander (not sure of the grit, but it was one of the ones used to sand walls, etc, kinda squishy). It worked really well when you polished her off with a coat of meguires tire shine.

3 then 1 then 2, just be light with your sanding, it should get screwed up.

dry, honesly after crusie I would grab the sanding block and knock down the edges. My damage was usually on the leading edge/ under side (where a parking block would hit) of the splitter. Then rub her down with some tire stuff and it was good to go. As with everything try it in a less than noticable area to see how it works.

Yes, after a little dremel tool work. You can buy it from any dealer for $65 or so, which is amazingly cheap. There's a huge discussion thread here somewhere. Love mine (except for the scratches).

2L8IWON, what is the clearance at stock height with the GT500 front splitter? I was under the impression it wasn't that much lower, if at all.

Yes...it can be done. I have a little "how-to" thread, as do a couple of other members on TMS.

I'm pretty confident that Kevin is going to tell you to go to your local dealer, as the box is HUGE and will cost a small mint to ship. He's very honest at stating that the shipping costs are greater than the discount.

It hangs a little lower. I'm not lowered and can go over "normal" curb, although it is close.

However, the bigger problem is when going up or down slopes, due to the angles.

Try cleaning it up if you can and then do what I did to my Jeep flares. Paint them with Krylon Fusion. It did wonders for my jeep but do it in a really clean area. Before I painted my flares I would have to treat them all the time to keep the faded look away.

SEM makes a bumper black that would be better though than the fusion stuff but hey I'm cheap.

Just using black plastic protectant, exterior plastic trim detailer, or even regular tire shine (as they are pretty much all the same silicone-based product) should help.
