Gt/cs?

I am currently looking to have a GT/CS rear bumper installed and have been talking with one of the local ford dealers about pricing (i.e. for the bumper, the paint, and the install).

Now, my problem is that first I think he has the wrong parts #: His #7R3Z17K835AAPTM / What I thought # 6r3z6320049ba, second he has the bumper priced at $518 and painted/ installed is priced at $970. If someone could please give me some insight as to if this looks correct or not? Any help is appreciated!!!

WAY too expensive. I got mine here...

http://www.fordgenuineaccessory.com/...t_id=3697&GID=

Shipping was about $20 which is unbelievable when you see the size of the box they ship it in. I paid about $200 for paint.

Thanks, I thought I was going out of my mind when I saw what the Ford guy quoted me!!!! The price seems almost identical to what I have heard and what I expected... How long does it take to ship? Thanks for your help!!

It actually took a couple of weeks because it was backordered when I placed my order. I ordered it before my car came in, but I didn't really pay much attention to how long it took. I wasn't horribly concerned since I didn't have a car yet AND it only cost about $20 for shipping.

I couldn't agree w/ you more IF I was in the same situation. I have another question; you say it is a huge box; will it fit in the Mustang or should I just have it sent to the Body Shop?

No way in the world it would fit in the Mustang. It was about 6'x2.5'x2.5'. I'm not so sure you'd eve get the cover itself in the car.

I knew the answer but I was hoping!! I am just worried a bit sending it directly to the body shop; I am a bit of a control freak.

have it shipped to yourself, and figure it out from there. i am sure you have a friend that has a wagon or a pickup truck that could run it over for you.

i bet with some coaxing you could get the cover itself in your car.

I would normally agree with you but unfortunately I just moved and have not had a chance to meet anybody so that idea as for now is out but I appreciate the help...

As for trying to pack it into the Mustang; I would rather not...

The cover itself is wrapped in soft foam sheeting so it won't mar up your interior, but again, not 100% that it would fit.

If you don't mind me asking, did you go through a dealership? And if so, did you use their body shop?

$440 painted and INSTALLED isn't too horrible. I paid about $225 for the paint alone, but I installed it myself. Took about an hour working slowly and carefully.

I guess I am just getting used to not having the tools or facility to do it myself since I moved and coming to the realization that Labor isn't free.... Hopefully it reigns true; You get what you pay for!!!

Thanks for the help Rob!

The bumper cover he priced for you was probably the GT500 bumper and not the GT/CS version. It's a lot more expensive.

Installation isn't hard. No special tools or facility needed. You can do it in a parking lot.

I haven't taken a look underneath yet but when I say that I have no tools I mean I have none.... And I know I don't need a special facility it is just nice to have a lift or even concrete (I have gravel which is just a pain in the butt)... Anyways, I am going to take a look this weekend and maybe it would give me an excuse to tell wife I need to make a run to Lowes. Cross my fingers!!

It's actually a pretty simple and straight forward install. You don't spend much time under the car. I didn't need to lift mine at all, there's plenty of room for what you need to do. For you the hardest part would be getting the painted cover home safely and keeping it safe until it's on the car. If I remember correctly you only need a 10mm socket and not much else.

7R3Z-17D957-AAPTM is the production bumper cover, it should sell for no more than $472.88, $340.48 if it was discounted. $319 and $20 for shipping on that is insane, these guys are loosing money big time.

6R3Z-6320049-AA is the accessory bumper cover, and retails for $399.00, $279.30 if discounted, it would be very expensive to ship such an item, and then there would probably be a 75% chance (90% if UPS) of it arriving damaged. I would order it from the dealer, but they are charging you to much for the bumper. Ask them for the accessory bumper cover, and tell them you found it online for $279.30, i'm sure they will be happy to match it.
