Since the new GT500 has come out and has the gt500 stickers on the rocker panels, wouldn't that make any of those types of "GT-whatever" stickers on any non-Shelby Cobra become instant "rice"?

Just checking before I order mine.

Yeah, it's somewhat ricey to put those decals on in my opinion. Unless you have a GT 350 or 500, I wouldn't personally put the decal on my car. GT 300 decals, on the other hand, might be OK if you have an '05 GT, since it's a GT with 300 HP

Doesn't the "350" in "GT350" have more to do with the engine size then the horsepower? If I'm right in this thinking then people who sport the "GT3XX" stickers wouldn't be rice

I was just thinking that those style decals were only found on Shelby cobras.

Yeah, I don't know! IMO though, the GT500 stickers shouldn't be on the 05 nor the GT350 stickers. I personally don't think it's rice, it just dosen't repreasent what the car really is. Now, a GT300 would be fitting, but all of this is just my opinion.

It just dosen't repreasent what the car really is

Hehehe, personally, no I don't think you'll look like a ricer. If it had BIG 'ol GT350 vinyl 3 feet tall that went at an angle from quarterpanel, across the door and to the fender... Ya... that qualifies. Drop a whale tail on there... Bondo a funky body kit on there... and don't paint it... hehe THAT's rice.

Now, I wouldn't feel odd about the GT300 because of the horsepower. But 350 or 500? Or Cobra emblems, etc? I wouldn't want to look like a poser... Disclaimer: But that is just me and I don't begrudge anyone for doing what they want and I think everyone should do what's good for them and makes them do the happy dance.

Want some pie?

Lets make it a rule, if you have GT350 stickers, you have to have 350 HP, and if you have GT500, well, ya better have 500 HP!

Don't forget that the whale tail must be held down with galvanized deck screws.

But what if you mod your 05 to put out 350 hp.
GT350 would be appropriate. no?

I don't think it's rice at all, especially if you've done other Shelby-like things to your car. I personally decided to just get plain rocker stripes on my car because I had the "GT" emblem and didn't want 2 GT's on the side of my car. But, I have since replaced my GT emblems with running ponies. I may or may not switch the rocker stripes out with some "GT350" ones because I plan on continuing to make my car resemble the '65 and '66 Shelby GT350's by molding on a '65/'66 Shelby hood scoop, etc.

Basically, I don't think rocker stripes based on the original Shelby stripes (as far as size and lettering) can ever be called rice. They might not work on all cars and may look out of place or even tacky if say they are put on a car that also has 20" rims or a body kit. It has to suit the car. As far as the lettering, it doesn't really matter. I say the GT300 fits this car best because it supposedly come with 300 HP from the factory. But, that number didn't have anything to do with HP or cubic inches. Carroll Shelby was trying to decide what to call his new cars along with some of the other executives back in 1964. So, finally he stood up and asked the execs how far away the assembly line was from his office. The answer, "about 350 feet". And the GT350 was born. The GT500 was first introduced in 1967, and I am not sure how the name came to be, other than it just was a bigger number and sounded better. The GT350 basically symbolizes small blocks (which the '05 would fall under) and GT500 was for the big blocks. As far as what number to put there, I personally like 350, because we have a small block and it was the original. And that is what I will be putting on my rocker stripes if I chose to get the letters.

I thought the term "rice" was originally used to describe Japanese cars. Rice burners.

yes but now since so many idiots deface american cars we have to count those too. And in my opinion putting gt350 or gt500 are just as bad as putting a type r sticker or emblem on a car that was never a type R. There is a fine line because very few other cars have the ability to have Clone cars. Why would someone want to pay homage to a 84 civic with there new 05 civic. So i'd say it walks a fine line and its not something i would do. I think homage is better represented with just the look and without fake badges or decals. Just getting the stripes pays homage, getting the gt500 put in them start going the other way.

I have the GT, so I picked the GT300 decal. The side of the car needed something to break up all the yellow, and they look great with the dual ralley stripes.

You can't possibly compare a '65 Mustang with a '84 Civic. There is nothing wrong with paying homage to a classic that your car has been designed after. At least IMO.

that was the point of that comment, In the sentance before it i said very few other cars are in the same postition as the mustang, thats why it is a hard, for me anyway, to decide completely how i feel about the cobra badges on a gt.
