I’m sorry, but refresh my mind; did anyone ever find plates like the ones attached? I don’t want to dealer to drill into my car but I need a front plate since I live in California.

I would stick the front plate on the dash. What does the law say exactly on front plate placement?

(a) Following the retail sale or lease of a motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, a dealer may not deliver the motor vehicle unless either of the following occurs:

(1) The motor vehicle is equipped with a bracket or other means of securing a front license plate.

(2) The dealer obtains a signed written acknowledgment from the person taking delivery of the motor vehicle acknowledging both of the following:

A) The person expressly refused installation of a bracket or other means of securing the front license plate.

B)The person understands that California law requires a license plate to be displayed from and securely fastened to the front of the motor vehicle and that the hardware necessary to securely fasten the front plate is available from the dealer.

B) A manufacturer or distributor may not sell or distribute in this state a new motor vehicle for which the department issues two license plates, unless that motor vehicle is equipped or provided with a bracket or other means of securing the license plates.

Now you know why I am in search of such a thing. Is there any place that makes these or that I could request them custom made? I’d be willing to pay extra to not drill my car.

I would think you can go to Home Depot and get brackets that are close and could be bent to work. Then go to a metal fabricator/shop and have them make something cleaner out of aluminum or something similar.

The pic you posted is the perfect solution.

Thank you for adding to my thread. Please stay on topic.

Now seriously I wonder how hard it is to make one of these on my own. Anyone got a picture of the bottom? That wasn’t what I looked at last time I test drove a car, and mines not here yet. I’d like to see what I’d have to do to accomplish this.

Actually the picture you attached is similar to the way the front license plate attaches to my 2001 F150. You are going to need to drill some holes, but I think you can find a way to avoid drilling directly into the bumper.

I've never had a front plate on my jeep (five and a half years old) and I live in CA My front bumper (aftermarket) doesn't even have a mounting location for a plate. I don't think this is a heavily enforced law. I've been pulled over once for another offense and the cop didn't mention it, had no trouble passing smog without it, etc. I guess it gives the cop an excuse to pull you over if he thinks you might be doing something else wrong (DUI, or whatever). Anyway, I don't plan on running a front plate on my mustang either when I finally get it. It just doesn't seem to be a big deal in the areas I drive. There are a ton of cars out there without front plates.

Very cool idea.

You could possibly look for some holes to bolt to on the radiator support or crossmember.

The best thing to do would get a good look at the car. you could probably fab up something out of sheetmetal or have something made for you as was previously suggested.

What I plan to do is tell my fleet director not to have it mounted and no tags. Then I will have paper plates for a while, and during that time I will come up with something hopefully. If not I guess I will have them drill it, but I hope it doesn’t come to that.

If someone could provide me with a picture of that part of the car it would be awesome. I would think might be a bit hard to get a picture, but it would give me a nice idea.

I was recently looking for a new home, and living in Kansas City metro, I have the choice of Missouri or Kansas. I expressly decided not to look in Missouri b/c they require a front plate.....Kansas does not. I refuse to deface the front of a car for a stupid law that is clearly not required in that numerous states across the country do not require front plates. My friends think I am crazy. I think I don't want to ruin the front end of my car.

199.95 is my best solution? If it was 50 I'd buy it but I cant see spending 200 dollars when I won't ever use the flip down part (as I'm sure it's highly illegal) other then just showing off for a few kicks with friends and coworkers. I’m sure if someone posts a picture of under the bumper or if I want to get mine, I will come up with something.

I also live in California. I haven't had a front plate for 20 years and I haven't had a problem yet. When I picked my GT up it had a couple of minor blemishes on the front bumper. The dealer sent it out to a local body shop for repair, I contacted the guy and told him since you down there anyway fill the holes before you paint, wwhich he did. Looks much better smooth and if I do get stopped I'll tell them I'm waiting for the bracket.

am I glad here in Ohio we can just put it on the dash. The state only requires it be visible from the front.

That's directly from a Statie too
