I thought I'd share how I got around drilling holes in my bumper. I drilled holes in the plate instead! I drilled four small holes in the center of the plate and ran two zip ties through the holes and around the center pillar in the bottom of the bumper. The bottom of the plate sits on the small ledge provided by the bottom of the bumper. This makes the plate "taper in" at the same angle as the bumper, which I think looks better than having the plate completely vertical and higher up on the bumper. Also, I lined the back of the plate with felt "bumpers" to protect against rubbing at high speed.

Not a bad idea. I'm still kicking myself for drilling holes. :bang:

Love the sun shade!

yeah, it's funny. I went down to Home Depot and bought different sized brackets and screws, yada yada, preparing to drill holes in the underside of the bumper. Then it hit me how I could do something much simpler and IMHO, it looks better!

Very clever! I took the "lazy" way out on mine. Lol. But I'm happy with it.

Thanks for this excellent idea. I got tired of getting warning citations from the DPS here in Texas for no front plate on my 03 Cobra. I haven't received the plates yet for my 06 GT but I got the zip ties and felt cushions already.

I try to place the plate on the car with the directions you gave, but I'm sure I'm doing it right. When i put the plate up against the car theres a gap at the top between plate and the fender (please post close up pics) and how did you secure the top part of the plate. I can see how you could have atached the bottom with zipties but what about the top.

I'll take some close-up shots and get 'em to you. The plates may not sit completely flush at the top, but it's barely noticeable. I secured the top the same way as the bottom. I ran a zip tie through the 2 holes I drilled at the top and ran it behind the pillar in the bumper. I just made sure to snug them real tight. I've had my car up to 125mph and no problem. I attached a pic indicating where I drilled the holes. The red lines represent the zips. Hope this helps.
Sorry pic's a little small but I think you get the idea.

I am glad Pennsylvania doesn't use front plates.

Are there any other states that don't require front plates?

Rebel, I like the idea. Makes for an easy off/on if at a car show too.
What did you use to hold your frame to the plate? Short nut and bolt?

Thanks for the tip Rebel. Works like a charm. I lined the back of the plate with a one sided piece of felt and the other side is sticky. Then trimmed the excess. Can't even tell it's there.

This is a great idea. One question though - does the lower plate location block air from reaching the radiator?

I'm sure it does block some since it's right in the middle, but if it has any effect, I haven't noticed....Then again, it's snowing here!!!
