Fender Badge Removal Help

I had read in the forums that the 05 thru 07 GT's fender badges had alignment holes under the badge and could not be removed without installing new badges of some type. I even saw close up pictures of a fender with holes in it were the badges were removed. I was at a car show yesterday and talked to two 06 GT owners who had their cars on display one with no fender badges at all and no holes and one with SVT cobra's on the fender were the GT's used to be. My question is that both of the 06 GT's owners said there GT badges were just stick-on ones with no holes behind them? Did that change for the 07 GT's, or is there some way of telling without removing the badges first? I was under the impression that only the LX fenders were free of the badge holes.

As far as I know 05 had holes too. It would be absolutely great if the 06/07/08 have no holes. This makes my plans alot easier.

But we should wait for proof by the users here.

My 06 had holes........they are off set. If they went with "hole-less" fenders on the 07's and up I'm unaware of it.

Not really holes but indentations for the alignment pins. The emblem has a square piece of double-sided tape in the middle with a pin on either side in a diagional pattern. The indentions do not go all the way through the surface of the panel. That was the case for my '07 anyway. I assume the '08 model is the same.

This is a picture tutorial about changing your fender badges. It includes measurements of the mounting holes in the s197 fenders, which I haven't found anywhere else. I know this is a basic task, but hopefully this information which is from several threads will be of help to someone. Note: there are many other methods, feel free to chime in.

The first thing to do is to get your stuff together: besides the badges, you need
1) painters masking tape
2) sticky out (or some other citrus-safe goo remover)
3) WAXED dental floss
4) alcohol pads
5) cotton rag

Frame the present badge with tape for reference later. (I find this a LOT easier than measuring.) Then, use the dental floss trick to take the badge off. This takes a certain knack to do. Be patient and experiment. Some people use a hair dryer, but I don't feel comfortable doing that.

This photo shows the famous fender holes that everyone asks about:

Here is a crude diagram I made of the dimensions of these holes, in case you want to know if your new emblem will cover them. (Horizontal and Verticle measurements are from hole center to center):

Here are the emblems removed, showing the mounting prongs. Note that the left and right fenders have identical, NOT mirror-image hole patterns.

If you are careful when you remove the stock badges, you can re-use them because no harm will come to them.

My 07 GT had offset holes as described above in the fenders as well, not just indentions as mentioned previously. Once the GT badges were removed, I used fishing line instead of dental floss, but either is the easiest way to get the badges off the fender. Once removed 3M adhesive remover works well to get the residue off. I think I picked it up at O'reilly's.

My Ford body shop filled the alignment holes, welded a plate where the antenna hole was, sanded, and painted. My results...

To my knowledge, the only cars with no holes in the fenders is the base model V6. My '06 had them!

Hey there,

Our '05 and '07 Exhibition cars both have holes in the fender for badge alignment. A customer of mine has an '06 - that also had the holes. He removed the badges and filled the holes.

I have to give props to MellowYellow06's for his write up. I especially liked his "crude" diagram...pretty darn good if you ask me and the measurements were right on the money.

Are there any aftermarket emblems or badges that will cover these holes the same way the GT emblems did?

Replacement of the "GT" emblems with "Pony" emblems

I inquired with a parts department and was told that the alignment pins on the "GT" emblems are the same as on the "Pony" fender emblems (red/white/blue w/ the Mustang Horse).

I ordered some so I'll see if they look the same before removing the GT emblems.
