fake gas cap loses its paint

Anyone else have this happen? The car is one year old. The black paint on the fake gas cap just peeled off. First i noticed a huge piece had peeled away. It looked like crap with part of the black peeled off. Then the next time i washed the car, i pointed the garden hose at it and the rest of the paint peeled off instantly.

I can't decide if i like it now being unpainted, or if I should repaint it. It's not really a noticeable defect to the untrained (non-Mustang) eye.

I included a before shot (from a year ago) and two after shots as it is now.

Wait until the $400 PBF plastic emblems start doing it I actually like the gas cap like that, its under warranty though if you want a new one.

I have noticed a couple scratches in mine where I can see the chrome underneath the black, but nothing like that. Hmm. Maybe I should get the SHR replacement.

Yes, the paint on my cap is chipping off as well. The dealership is replacing it under warranty.

Do you have any shots of the entire rear of the car with the all-chrome fake gas cap? I like the look up close, but would need to see the whole thing to really have an opinion.

My car is only 5 months old and is already starting to peel

That, and on most pieces, there is no paint to peel...starting at only 129.00

The black part of the emblem on mine is different -- it's not black paint; it has a plastic insert . I guess they changed them on the '07s?

Possibly. Mine is an 07 as well as the OP's car. Interesting...

Just when I thought it was not noticeable....After being that way for over a month in my driveway, my wife finally noticed it today across 3 lanes of traffic.

After my original post this morning, I passed my wife on the way to work this morning, and she calls me right away and asks, "Did you do something to the back of your car?" [btw it's been that way for a little over a month]

I said, "No. Do you remember over a month ago when I told you about the paint peeling on the back?...Well, that is what it looks like now. All the paint has peeled."

Then she informed me, "You gotta get that fixed. It looks terrible."

I'll post a pic of the entire car when I get home tonight. I don't think its terrible, half the people will like it and half won't. But i'll probably end up fixing it.

Actually I think it was cheaper then 200, hard to tell when I have 4 things on the way via UPS at any given time.

I would love to get one of those Marcello, except for the fact it does not use the current GT font. If you start making them with the current font, I will buy one.

Stillen has done that to their Mustang on purpose. I think maybe if you had the just the GT letters filled with black, it'd probably look pretty good.
