Factory wheels to 18" wheels

Does anyone know if you can switch out our factory wheels to 18" wheels without any problems? I thought it would be a simple swap out but when I look at the wheels I want to get, 18" chrome bullitts from Ford racing, on their website it says this:

Note: For vehicles with 16" wheels from the factory: -installing 17" x 8" wheels, use steering stop 4R3Z-3932-BA -Installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA
For vehicles with 17" wheels from the factory: -installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA

I currently have factory 16" wheels and I'm about to upgrade to 18". Here's the link to the website: http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=8970

I don't know what the steering stops are for. Also do I have to change out anything like brakes? Someone said I have to change the front to GT brakes or can I just swap my factory 16's for the 18's without doing anything else?

To go from 16" to 18" you must change the brakes to GT style. From 16" to 17" is a direct bolt on.

If you can go from 16"-17" with the V6 brakes, why can't you go 16"-18"?

That's news to me as well. Have never heard of that one before.

When upgrading to larger rims, just try to keep whatever size tire you are getting as close to the original diameter so your speedo won't be off by much.

I upgraded from the standard 16" V6 rims to American Muscle 18" DD without any problems / steering stops whatsoever...

No rubbing at all and the speedo is still reading as accurate as before (double-checked with my GPS)...

Only 18" Bullitt FRPP wheels don't clear brake calipers of V6 with 16" rim! (This problem is not on all V6 or on all years... too)
With Fanblades or DD Bullitt or other rims You won't have a problem!
