Factory Hood Scoop Questions

Hi Folks,

My order for my 2007 Mustang GT Coupe should get entered into the system sometime Monday morning, after having spec'ed out the car at the dealership yesterday.

I'm going with Grabber Orange!

But, I had some trouble deciding on that non-functional factory hood scoop. I like the look of it on the stock vehicle in terms of exterior mods, like Safarisun's new ride shown here (I paintshopped the wheel colors a bit).

The trouble for me is, I think I want to add some BaltimoreStreetMods stripes, probably in black, and I'm just not sure how that would look on this color with the hood scoop there. I'd feel better if I could mock it up first or see one in person with these combos. I've seen it on vista/sonic blue with white stripes, it looks good over there. I'm just not sure it won't look too busy on this color though.

SOOO, the long story short to my question is, what would be the best way to get my hands on a factory G.O. hood scoop, but not have it be installed? I asked the dealership but they thought the scoop if ordered under code 54G would arrive from the factory already attached. Is there no other way to get one stock, forcing me to look towards an unpainted scoop in the aftermarket space and a bodyshop to paint or install it, or do it myself? What would people recommend, short of just bailing on the scoop (which is my current fall-back position)?

Thanks,

The scoop does unbolt from the hood(10 fasteners). I've seen them with the stripes installed and the scoop put back on the top it didn't look that bad.Having the stripes painted on would be another option to include striping the scoop.

I did ask the dealer if they would swap out for a plain G.O. hood because the shaker scoop was a planned option later down the road. You could ask but they pretty much have to sell the car with the options listed on the window sticker. They wouldn't even swap out my polished Bullitts for a set of fan blades.

I have the GTAP which included the hood scoop. I personally like it and have seen other cars with the scoop and stripes that looked great. I am currently thinking about stripes and unsure whether to stripe over the scoop or cut around it

FWIW - I like the look of the stripes right over the hood scoop....however, If I had it to do over again - I would not have gotten the hood scoop or rear wing. I prefer the shaker hood set up and ducktail for the Mustang.

Tell you what....order Vista Blue with no scoop and I'll trade ya my hood ....I know I'm

Hey Tom,
Yeah, your set-up does look pretty sweet.
I guess I should do some research on the Shaker..
Not very knowledeage about it yet, I am sure a quick search will reveil another 2-3 hours of reading enjoyment though - they seem popular.
I'll have to look and see what that mod would do to a daily driver, I have to commute 50 miles one-way with the car..

The thing I need photo shopped is probably the front page of the 2007 accessory brochure. I'm liking the road-warrior look of black stripes with the nose bra and rear ducktail spoiler. I'm still worried the stock hood scoop is just going to be too over-the-top for driving into my ho-hum engineering job every day in downtown Cambridge MA...

I drive my car everyday. The shaker has provisions for rain water, etc. For what its worth, the main reason I went with it is because I've had an '03 Mustang GT with the fake scoop, and an '04 Mach 1 with the factory shaker: there is NO comparison between the two! I didn't want another fake hood scoop.

Oh, the other reason why is because I wanted stripes, but I couldn't picture a good way to go with stripes on a fake scoop unless the stripes were narrow enough to fit on it- kinda like the Roush cars- and I wanted atleast 10" wide stripes.

Just food for thought.... sorry to hijack your thread.

Nah that's fine. Some of your thoughts on why Shaker scoop and no fake OEM is related to stripes, which was my basic question to begin with.
I think in all cases non-Shaker, I would stripe the scoop. Be it OEM or Roush or whatever.

So for the setup I thought I wanted to get, stripes + nose bra, I was thinking that stripes + nose bra + fake OEM scoop is overkill for looks.

If it was stripes + nose bra + shaker, it probably still works appearence-wise. IMO.

Are you sure you need a nose bra? Maybe losing that would help "unclutter" the look if you kept the fake scoop?

True, I could lose the nose bra. I thought it would be good from time to time to stick it on there for the 50-mile commute down the Mass Pike into Boston. My buddy's Ford Taurus has about 40 dings in the paint from a 3-year commute down that road. Although my car won't be on the road in the winter and most of it could be road salt and sand/rocks in winter..

Plus, and I don't know how it will look in person, but I thought the nose bra on the G.O. gave the car the road warrior look. I could be wrong.
