Factory front license plate mounting question

The state house was reviewing a bill to remove the front plate requirement when I took delivery last year. Well, after a year of waiting, that bill's still dead, so it is time for me to mount the plate.

I'm just looking for a factory mounting look with no frame and two bolts.

I will have to drill the two detents in the bumper cover, but do I also need threaded plastic inserts for the bolts to screw into, or are there already threaded holes behind the bumper cover?

What size bolt is used? Head, thread, length.

Thanks

I'll consider the bracket.

However, I'd still like to know how they intended it to be mounted at the dealership.

At the dealership, they take a drill to two little pilot dimples in the front bumper. They then screw two large self tapping screws through the plate into the bumper.
I strapped a plastic plate support (Bell) to the lower black plastic below the bumper using soft, strong velco straps. I put a piece of heavy felt where the bottom might touch the paint down near the ground ( it rests on the center post). It is very sturdy (even at high speed) and comes off in minutes.

I need a better picture.

Has anyone tried this drill-less bracket? How does it hold up at higher speeds? Any pics? Thanks!

Just go with out the front plate, my state requires one but I don't care. If I ever get pulled over for it I will just pay the fine. Rather pay the fine 100 times instead of ruining the look of the front end.

I have noticed that there seem to be a lot of cars in California without a front license plate. I wonder how many of them actually get ticketed, because if they don't enforce it, the automatic red light violation cameras would be useless.

Don't drill it! If need be, take the 2ns plate and scuff it up a little bit. Bend one corner, and stick double sided 3M tape to the back. Then dirty that up. If you get stopped, tell them it was falling off, and you didn't want to create a hazard, so you took it off.

The only problem with this is that some of us have jobs, which we really like, that require our vehicles to be in line with the laws of our state.

Blue Knight-- I think the screws used are self tapping. Not sure what size though. I'm using a bracket from PepBoys that keeps the plate nice and straight. If you put it on without a bracket the plate will flex and be crooked since the bumper on the GT is curved.

I'm with ya Xanadu. After 7 months of having no plates on the car, I finally got a ticket the other day. The HOT lady cop asked why I hadn't put them on and I replied "Because I have a Mustang!" She laughed and said just to take care of it, after or course, she gave me a ticket!

I wish I had the oportunity to decide how to mount the plate but some minimum wage clown augered into my front bumper to mount a dealership promo plate.

On the subject though,I have never run a front plate in my state(IL) and have had luck with understanding cops. The one thing I always point out is when was the last time they pulled someone over from the front. I show them respect and have always gotten off.
