Easy GT/CS Antenna Delete Fix
A very Low cost, smart looking antenna delete for your GT/CS or any other S197 out there. If you want to cleanup that fender for no money!
Was in a big rush to get to the dragstrip last Saturday morning and when I was uncovering the CalStang, just forgot to install the factory antenna.
At the strip, a friend asked if I had heard any of the college football games current scores. Said. "No, but we can probably get them on the CalStang's radio"! I Saw the missing antenna and said "Ouch". As the strip is about thirty miles from a big city! We got into the CalStang and found that the area's games came in nicely on both the AM and FM radio stations!!
Well this got me thinking about just how badly we really don't need that ugly black fishing rod of an antenna sticking out of the fender. Plus in the CalStang, we also have the Sirius radio, the MP3 player and the music CD's too. So the only thing we really do hear on local radio after all, is the ball games and the area's weather reports anyway!
Back at the car shop on Sunday, I wondered what would be easy to fab as an antenna delete plug, that looked semi-clean? In parts. I found a black anodized aluminum phillips stove bolt head screw. That even fit and looked about correct! Wrapped black plastic electric tape around the threads to give a snug bite/fit. and installed it. I can upgrade with a piece of thin black tubing for a proper bushing later. Hope someone out there might like this latest idea and be able to use it? Will let the pictures show the great low cost final results. "RC"

there's lots of simple fixes, I dont dislike that thing, but it would be better not there. I dont use FM/AM at all anymore. Sirius is soooo much better

Moved to exterior mods section because this is not a mod specific to the GT/CS.
Also I have to agree with others and say um, no. I would rather chop down the stop antenna than to use a screw. Sorry but the screw kinda looks cheesy.

Oh-Well
Busted!! Thought some of the gang might like an easy fix, like was done on our MS. Oh-Well. P.S. Had some of the fellow Stangers looking at it at last nights Quaker Steak lot show. Asking just how we did this very clean looking antenna delete mod!! CalStang

doesnt look bad to me....maybe not car show worthy, but at least a temporary fix to something that really bothers you while you look for a permanent solution.

If that's the route you wanted to go, it would look less "Home Depoish" if a hex head screw was used, or something other than a phillips head screw sticking out of the top. Maybe a black knurled screw, etc? Good idea though. Question- I see paint between the bezel and antenna mount. Can the bezel be removed or are their alignment holes, etc below it? Anyone know?

Why not just buy one of these. Looks 100000 times better.

I don't care for the ugly XM/Sirius antenna that sticks out on the car. I don't understand why people can complain about the AM/FM whip antenna when they have a huge shark fin or Microsoft mouse attached to the roof or decklid of their car.
I saw someone's Pontiac G6 coupe convertible with a radio antenna that looked bent like Pikachu's tail, except it was made that way:

How is the performance on the shorty antennas? I usually listen to my Sirius or the CD, but I drop into the old FM stations now and again. I like the looks of the black one on UPR there but don't want any reception reduction.

Have someone else hit the right front fender of ther car. When you take it in tell shop to fill holes. It worked for me. cost me $27 for the hidden antenna. Oh, I gained 27 hp and the car gets 43 mpg from the mod.
