Ducktail install, BAD.....
Easy, no. It's also not easy to line up a fender, 2 doors, and a quarter panel all on a car that got hit hard in the side and had to have the uniside replaced. But taking it to a bodyshop is where it should be done right since they should have the training, experience, and most importantly care enough to get it done. All this would be a lot better discussion if we had a picture so that we knew what we were talking about.
As far as baking it on - give me a lesson here - does the heat help the double sided tape material hold better? I'd be concerned about the heat from the booth expanding the ducktail if it's a plastic based material. That's why a lot of emblems use a foam adhesive rather than just regual tape. The emblems expand in the heat from the sun, then cool, and when that all happens the adhesive can give way since the plastic emblems expand and contract differently than the sheetmetal. The foam adhesive tapes act as a barrier to keep this from happening.
I too have the CDC DT, and since it's glass it may react differently than what the others.

They are removing the spoiler and reinstalling it, so, if someone tells you it can't be removed they are full of it because it can be done. Also, if they want to make sure it really is stuck on there, have them put the car in the paint booth after and bake it on.

He said, the ducktail is like a soft pretzel when you put it on there and its a one shot deal. You have to start from the middle and he said he's perfectly centered on the brake light so.. i dunno, like i said, he did work on it, and got it to look better my doing some **** so i'm gonna leave it.
it doesn't look bad anymore.

He also said once it's on, it's a PITA to get off. Thats why... WE... took extra long time lining it up and looking at how it would expand contract.
Basically, it looks great, not perfect but even after a month it still expands and contracts a little bit. He also pointed out the finish of the part before he painted it and where it will be slightly blemished..., unless I wanted to pay more for the extra time to make it perfect. I didn't.
Unless it's a show car, and you can only tell if you're right up and trying to find a problem, I wouldn't worry about it.

I was very skeptical of having a body shop installing my CDC spoiler and aligning all 3 peices perfectly. I've seen some mis-aligned spoilers at car shows and so I can imagine (w/o pix) what you went through. After debating the issue, I went ahead and installed the spoiler myself. I took my time and made measurements many, many times, before and during the install including drilling 10 holes into the back. I'm quite happy with the alignment, and its too bad that some body shop installers are not perfectionists who take their work to heart.
I did my 3D Carbon 3 pc myself and it took about an hour to line everything up and put it on. Quite a nerve-wracking experience but in the end it did line up perfectly and I've had nothing but good compliments. I haven't seen the expansion/contraction issue myself, the gap between the parts seems to hide it well!!
I also did mine on my own, CDC. The templates the provide SUCK! It took time to line it up, but it came out perfect, I'm very happy I did it myself, I don't trust other, they don't care how it looks, as long as they get their money.
