Downs Ford Mach 1 Grille

OK, this is exactly what I want right here. Anyone know what parts I can order to get this look?

Another shot...

Looks like from the closeup a overlay grille with a pony bolted/adhered onto it. This looks just like what I'd want. I'm not a huge fan of the large fogs, but this look would even out the front end as they are starting to grow on me.

So anyone know at least which grille this is? I can order the pony logo up seperately. I'd prefer to get the grille in black to start, but if need be I could get it painted or powdercoated I guess.

Help!

Oh, and if you haven't seen the whole car yet, check it, pretty well done I think...

That looks like the Street Scenes grille.

That it does. That isn't the finish of the black chrome grille is it? Thanks a bunch Vista!

Looking on the SS site. They have that in Black Powdercoat Part # 950-74932. Now just have to find a place to buy it from. Man if I knew they had that grille in black powdercoat I likely would have gone this route a few weeks ago!

I ended up ordering the grill from Muscle Car Direct and ordered up a grille logo with bolts and nuts from mustangs unlimited. It's a 71-73 emblem that's 3" tall by 3" wide.

Can't wait! I hope it gets here before my next car show on the 24th.

Looks good but since that's metal it looks like just another thing to chip.

Yeah, that's the bad thing about black painted metal (especially on the front end of the car). If it gets hit hard with a stone, it's probably going to chip.

Glad you found what you were looking for though, Cowtown. Only too happy to help.

Well hopefully it won't take too many, and being black a little touchup should do the trick for a while. Once it gets a bit worse I'm sure I can get it repowdercoated or just out and out replace it. Maybe a factory style version will be out by then. I just want that look and don't want to wait for someone to maybe make one.

I love the look as well. If only some company out there made the same thing in black plastic...

If only... But I have the bits on order so hopefully I will enjoy this set up until such time. I really hope to have it by end of next week but probably not until closer to the end of June.

Got the bits in tonight, install was relatively easy overall. Nothing hard just a couple niggly things here and there and the Street Scene instructions are pretty much a waste so just be forewarned there.

Install looks pretty good. Only downsides of it are of course you can see the outline of the pony holder in the old grille. Aside from that I like it, it'll certainly do the trick until someone decides to make one like this, though I'm not holding my breath. Only other thing I may have done is used the dremel or a drill to open up one of the holes where the tri bar pony mounts. I have it on there really secure but if you look real close it's off axis by about 5 or so degrees. Not much unless you're looking at it straight on but that's a product of the grille pattern. Not much I can do without modification.

Here's a pic. It's small but gives you an idea. When I wash the car and get it to the car show on Saturday I'll get some better shots. It's just been raining 2-3 times a day for the last week. Blah.

Got mine done today too, I think I'm going to try to find a bigger pony emblem. I really like the look, except for the outline of the big pony being visible behind the new grille.

Can the stock pony be put on the new grill in the center, where it would normally go? Would it fit well? I've been wanting this grill, but I like the look of the pony in the center. Maybe one of Hireman's.

It could be put in the center, but I don't know how you would fasten it in place, the tri-bar pony has threaded studs...the stock pony does not. It might look different to leave the pony on the stock grille, and then put the street scene grille over the top of it.

Hmmm, I was thinking of cutting an outline of the pony on the grill, but the pony would be recessed too much and would not look good. The picture from SS has a billet pony on the center of the grill. Gotta do some homework on this...

Yeah there has to be some out there that you could attach. The one on the SS site looks much thicker than the stock pony.

I got some compliments on it over the last while. It is a subtle look that not everyone catches up front. I've grown more accustomed to the outline behind the grille and it doesn't bother me much if at all. It'll do until Blow By Racing comes out with some of their new options which sound pretty good.

Rocket if you find a slightly larger tribar logo let me know. I wouldn't mind one that was say around 4" tall. The 3" one is decent but a little larger and wider would be a bit nicer.
