Custom Shelby GT500 Hood ....
Would it be possible to close off the Shelby GT500's hood scoops?
I want to have a unique Mustang GT. I love the Shelby GT500 looks
up to a certain point. I really don't like the scoops. Would be nice
to have the hood w/o the scoops and keep the stock GT rear spoiler,
add the Shelby GT500 rear bumper. Legend05 want to chime in on this one?
Anyone want to do a photoshop job to see how it would look?

LBJAY is right. Aluminum is a very hard metal to weld. Too much heat will warp the area. Deric is right, cut out the area of the scoops and get an aluminum welder to patch it up. Plastic and paint and your good to go.
As for painting, the whole hood will have to be done. Don't worry, the paint is still new and not faded. Color match will be perfect.
Good luck. Love to see it done.
Actually, have you thought of customising a hood to look like a '67 shelby?

There are several places that would Tig weld the patch panels in if a body shop didn't want to touch it. You would probably have to cut the hood and patches yourself and take it to them. A body shop could then prep and paint the hood. You could probably get it done for the cost of the vent extractors + paint.
Edit: Oops - that's what I get for walking away on the reply screen - I didn't see Legend's post

Now this is what am talking about !!!!

my car..........................what have you all done to my car??????????????????????????
Actually that smooth hood looks pretty cool. I'm ok w/ the vents, they have grown on me, but if I would have seen that before my conversion, I'd have been tempted to find a shop to cut the vents out and make the hood smooth. Sure would have made it that much more unique. Someone needs to really do this now and post pics asap!!!!!!!!

I like the hood the way it is! LEAVE IT! It does look different and nice smooth, but resembles stock alot, if you like that why not stick with the stock hood? I imagine for the grill lines right? I like the vents, i think they give it a more aggresive look.......
I like it!....lets go Aftermarket!!! You know people will want different hoods for thier gt500s too....
Yeah I would expect a fiberglass version to hit the market. However I would expect a fiberglass version of the Shelby hood that didn't have the raised lip before seeing modified Shelby hoods. I also found this pic. It appears to have smalller recessed vents vs the production version.

change it. ****es me off everytime they do that !!!
I love this Shelby GT500 hood !!!
I think thats what you get when you produce a hood style without knowing what is going under it. When I dropped my 2 scoops, it was originally 2". But then it ended up hitting the throttle body. So I had to settle for 1 1/2" . The GT 500 proto hood was a good 3" drop.
Oh well.
Oh well.
At least the vents are functional
Word of caution when it comes to hoods. Once you cut and start adding filler, every time you raise and lower that hood it will weaken the filler and welds from the twisting of the hood being raised and lowered or ever slammed. Be prepared to have the hood repaired ie. painted and refilled often.
