Would I be better off just buying a painted new spoilerless trunklid, or getting the spoiler removed and the holes welded or what not? I got this idea from the Subaru guys who swap out their trunklids to get rid of the spoiler.

Try and find a windveil blue in your area (V6 or GT) that wants to swap decklids. That should be the cheapest way.
Otherwise, I would guess a decklid from the dealer costs quite a bit of money, plus you have to prep and paint it. There is additional work in swapping in the lock mechanism/medallion. I think having the holes welded up and the decklid painted is the least expensive way to go.

Pretty sure you'd still have to get it painted. It would cost less than $287.00 to have the holes filled. That is why I didn't look for a different trunk lid and will have the holes filled before installing the ducktail.
