Color question regarding SHR window louvers
Color question regarding SHR window louvers
I've read quite a few posts about this mod and I'm trying to decide if I want to get them prepainted from SHR or if I should go to someone locally for a better color match. It sounds like most have gotten good color matches to their paint, but they were solid colors. I need mine painted in satin silver which is a metallic and was curious if anyone had theirs done in ss and how close the color match was.
thanks for your help,
Mark

From my experience, you're better off pre-painted. This is a very difficult piece to paint and you're taking a big risk on a local shop painting a set for the first time. Paint match has been very good from everything I've seen, but I've seen more than a couple posts regarding screw-ups at local bodyshops. I had mine done locally from a shop w/ a great reputation but the results were bad enough that I ended up ordering a second set, prepainted, from SHR and it's what I should've done the first time.
Mine were red-fire which also is metallic. They came out great. I bought the louvers about 3 years after I bought the car. Of course, my car is under shade/garage alot. However I was very happy with the color match.

This is mine the day I installed them

I have Mineral Grey and there is a lot of metalic, let me tell you. I got them prepainted and they were a perfect match, and I am pretty picky. Do yourself a favour, get them done by SHR.
Our polish / finish guy we hired to keep up is hating you all for recommending him for more work
On the flip side, we're all happy to have work to do, so it's all good! We actually have a few colors ahead of the game at the moment, but only by the slimmest of margins.

I agree with everyone else- get the prepaints, I painted one set myself, ended up buying a set of prepaints...these are a pain to mask/paint.
SHR has done a boatload of them, experience I'm certain helps them do a great job. Vista Blue is also metallic/pearlescent(didnt know pearl till I went to buy a quart for my hood yesterday, saw all the crap they mixed in it) and the SHR louvers were a excellent match.

think about DIY- its really not as invasive as it sounds to 'cut the windows out'
one fella in here said he did it by using the wire around the glass- cutting across doing basically both top and bottom at same time, all from the outside... didnt take out the interior, less risk of scratching, etc...whenever I get around to putting a set in the wifes car I'll try that route for sure- not that it was difficult the other way, just that makes it sound like about a one hour job start to finish

Why not tape the back of glass and carefully break out the glass? You won't need it again anyway. Oh, a local glass shop where I live says they have removed the quarters of Stang's from outside.
You'd still have to remove all the glass pieces from where it's stuck w/ the adhesive. That could be a mess and take longer than just taking one large piece out instead of 100 little pieces w/ shards of glass through your gloves, etc.
