Center fog grill
#22
Let me put on my flame-retardant suit here...
Ok, now that it's on and zipped up tight, I'll let everyone know that I got my SSE grilles in from KC today and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Sure, I would rather have gotten one with the larger honeycomb like the 'mystery' grille, but since the honeycomb mesh used for the SSE grilles are the same exact mesh that will be on my RKSport GTR hood, it should all tie in together nicely. I couldn't hold out for the other grille anyway. I had to get my grille now so the body shop guy could paint/hang my front bumper. And I couldn't just use my old stock grille since it was destroyed in the wreck.
I installed the lower grille onto the stock bumper grille insert. And I also installed the fog lights into the main grille. I didn't need to stretch anything like some have said... you just need to put the screws in at a slight angle. Both grilles were warped a little in one area, but were very easy to correct. And the mesh material is not as flimsy as you think. I give it a 10. Can't wait to se it on my finished car.

Ian,
As long as your happy, you shouldn't really care what everyone else thinks. I agree everything should tie in nice.
I don't mind the SSE grill but I would rather have the other one, but that's just me. In the end I'll probably end up making my own.

Personally, I'd rather a metal grille than a plastic one anyday. Plastic scratches easier, gets dirtier easier, is harder to clean, and starts to 'grey'. And the SSE mesh is pretty thick stuff. It's not cheap looking chickenwire by any means. If you want to see a chickenwire grille, look at the '66 Shelby GT350SR. And really that doesn't even look bad to me. Of course, that's one of my favorite Mustangs of all time.

I posted an update on this grill in the main section but thought I would update it here as well.
The front Shelby style grill on the Westrenz / Deberti Gt roadster is going to be made by 3D carbon.
Here is a copy of the E-mail I recieved from them. I sent them another E-mail asking for a ball park timeframe, if they give me anything I'll post it.
From: 3dCARBON Sales [mailto:sales@3dcarbon.com]

That front grille is a prototype piece. We are planning to make it a production piece soon.
I will be happy to keep you e-mail address in my database and get back with you as we get closer to a production schedule.
Thanks for your inquiry.
Best Wishes -

Oh great. A 3D Carbon part. It will take forever before it hits the streets.

The lights are too close together on that one. They need to be a little further apart with a emblem off to one side.

It's probably just a modified V6 grille. Very easy to do, but hard to make it fit where a GT grille is supposed to go.
On a side note. I also emailed 3dCarbon several days ago, but haven't heard back from them. Looks like it's time to start a DAILY email routine until they respond.

I was told they are making them in sweat shops in Thailand, and the first shipment was on it's way over but got struck by a Tsunami.

Here's 3dCarbon's response to my email:
stangnut: I heard a rumor that you guys would be makung a new grille for the '05+ Mustang GT that would be made the same as the stock grille.
3dCarbon: We are coming out with a grille for the GT that will bring the lights close together. The holes for the lights are in the mold for the grille.
Take that for what it's worth. He doesn't really say it is going to be the stock style grille like we all want.
CDC also claims to be making another grille, but they won't confirm if it's the stock style or just another cheesy mesh grille.

Just got another email from 3dCarbon.
They said the 5.0 Resto grille looks just like theirs. No word on pricing or availability.
Now if I could just convince one of them to make the same grille, but w/o the fogs.
