Well looks nice, but i Like the look of the cdc better I think. Do you know when that will come out. I was told by cdc late april. Is that still going to be the case do you know. I just went to cdc site and they finally have the price for the shaker system, it is $795.00. I cant wait, now I have to find out if my dealer is going to give me poo over installing it.

I think I'm going to go with CDC and use my hood. This way I aviod all hood fit issues. The hole you cut is finished with a trim ring so that should be fine. Finish it off with matte black stripe like the 69-73 Mach.

Bill, that is also what I was thinking. Been trying to get the dimensions for a 70 Mach 1 hood stripe that would look right on the stock hood with the CDC shaker. No luck so far.

Hi Bill,
Maybe I can help you out. I own a 70 Mach 1 with a shaker hoodand with black stripes. Tell me what you want to know. I can take pictures and measurements for you.

Will cutting your hood warp it in any way?

I don't believe it will warp it as it has the cut out outlined on the underside from the factory and was made with that in mind. The cut out area has a trim ring to go around the hole.
As far as the 70 mach, haveing the width of the over all stripe as well as a picture of it if possible from straight over it would work.

Scott,

That was me asking about the stripe dimensions. If you can, I would like to know the width of the center stripe, the outer stripe and the gap. Also the total length from the hood lip to the furthest point up the hood that the stripe goes (I know it does not go to the back edge). This info might not all work on the 05 due to where the hole goes in the hood but it would be a start.

If I decide against the shaker, I might still do the stripe without it since I like the look. Also PM'd you. Thanks, Drew

Since I like to do things myself, is it possible/feasible to cut it myself. Or do you need a special saw/cutter to do the work?

Hi Drew,
Sorry I mixed you up with Bill. I will get the dimensions for you Sat. morning and post for you. You know you can still buy the hood stripe kits for a 70 Mach 1.
They are repo's and are pretty reasonable price wise and the quality is great. I wonder if they are long enough for the 05 hood?? I will get the overall hood dimension of the 70 to see how it compares in size to the 05. Your start'n to give me idea's. Boy the wife would think I lost it if I cut a hole thru the hood on a car I have had for 4 weeks.

Thanks Scott. The 70 kit just might work. Once I get the dimensions from your car I can lay it out on my hood and see how well it will fit. I would love to get the shaker but probably too much cash right now. Thanks for doing this for me! Drew

Hi Drew,
Got some dimensions from my 70 Mach 1 hood stripes for you and anyone else that may be interested. I believe the repo hood stripes for the 70 mach will fit on the 05. The 05 hood is actually 5 " shorter than the 70. We need to find out what the size and location of the CDC shaker is. My bet is it is the same size as the 70 Mach 1. All of the shaker components including the stripes are in reproduction for the 70 and I would not be surprized that they are the same units that CDC is using. Why reinvent to wheel.

70 Mach 1 hood and stripe dimensions
- Overall length of hood F/B 60 " on centerline
- Shaker opening is 14" L/R and 17" F/B
- Back edge of hood to rear of shaker opening is 7 1/2 "
- Center stripe is 15" wide
- 1/2 gap to outer stripe
- Outer stripe is 2" wide
- 3/4" gap from back edge of hood to start of stripe
05 hood is only 55" F/B down centerline

Since the 05 hood is 5" shorter there is some room to play with to postion the stripe on the 05 hood. Need those sizes for the CDC shaker unit. This is really starting to get my wheels turning. Thanks alot Drew!!!!!! Just kidding. I think this would be a very cool mod if it all works out. Need any more dimensions just let me know. I can also help you get the 70 Mach hood stripes when your ready!

Drew,
Here's another shot of the 70 Mach 1 shaker and stripes. Got to lose the 351 decal. I am sure you could get one custom made that read 281 C.I. or 4.6 liter to take its place. I wish I was better on the computer. I would like to crop the 70 shaker onto my 05 Vert. Like to see how it would look before cutting a hole in the hood.

The stripes on the 70 Mach look like glossy black. On the 71-73 Mach 1 its a matte finish which I prefer. Can the 70 configuration be ordered in Matte? CDC said there shaker hood will not be ready till late May.

Hi Don,
Here's a full shot. I like the Legend Lime color but I wish they would bring back Grabber Green.
HI Bill,
The 70 Mach stripes are semi gloss and as far as I know that is all that is available. Semi Gloss is correct for 70 model. Leave it out in the sun for awhile it will turn matte. Everything does!!

Scott, Great so long as it wasn't gloss black. The semi gloss will be fine. I had the black area between the tail lights and the chin spoiler painter in a semi gloss. Looks matte but isn't like sand paper, it's smooth.

Scott,

She is a beauty! I very nearly bought a near twin a couple years back but couldn't afford it. That's how I ended up with my 66 GT which I am very happy with.

Thanks for the dimensions. I was under the belief that the 70 setup was a vinyl outer stripe but the inner was painted. Are you saying that the entire thing is available in vinyl? If so, please point me to that. Since it is longer I could position it where I want it and cut off the excess. Could work out something with the 351. Thanks so much Scott, love your Mach1.

Hi Drew,
You are correct about the center stripe being painted and the outer being vinyl. Sorry if I lead you wrong. You can get paint stencils for both the center stripe and the outer stripe or paint the center and get a vinyl stripe for the outer. Attached are some web sites where they are available. You have a great idea. Hope you do it!!! These kits are very reasonable. Need a good body and paint man also.

Scott,

Thanks again. Now that I have the original dimentions from you I think I will put just the stripes on with vinyl. Probably go with a solid outer stripe, no number. The trick will be to line this all up with the washer jets and figuring out how far up the hood to go, how much paint to leave exposed up near the windshield. It's pretty wide for vinyl but I have a real good installer who will do the entire thing for about $120. I will post some pics if I get it done. Thanks for all the help. Looks like the shaker will have to wait. Drew
