I'd like to get my windows tinted but I live in the great state of California. What are some opinions of what % tint I can get away with without the fix it tickets. For the record I do understand and agree about why law enforcement does not care for limo tinted windows. I don't want anything too dark I just want to protect my interior and cool down the car for summer time.

Any pics would be appreciated as well.

no film tint of any kind is legal in Ca, unless you have documented skin disease. i run 35% on front sides and 50% on back 3 windows...i recommend 20% and 12% if i had to do it again because 35% can still be seen thru without much trouble and its only a subtle cosmetic hint

Wrong. Tints are legal in CA, go look on the CHP website budday. You can't tint the driver or passenger window at all, the actual percentages I don't know. I highly doubt that almost every car dealer in CA is illegally providing illegal tints on their cars.

Thats correct all but the driver/passenger side and front windshield can be tinted legally. As far as percentage, someone listed a site that showed all 50 state regulations per state.

I went with formula one 38 (pinicle series?)on my last car and never got a second look from any police cars in SoCal. I think 38 is a great comprimise, dark enough to look nice, light enough it doesn't draw unwanted attention or inhibit your vision at night.

I think if/when I get my windows tinted I'm going to use the same except on the back window, due to it's size I may go darker to make it look more even. The small windows looked like they had darker tint than the rest when I had them all tinted the same amount.

I have been stopped 2 times in 2 days for tint on my 05. Neither officer has written me a ticket. Turned out both times that we have mutual friends (I have trained a bunch of cops). That said they have asked me to get it squared away and I plan on having it done by friday.

When I picked up my 05 it had limo tint on the front windows. Looks great on the black car (something both officers mentioned) but it has to go. Our local DA, Ed Jagles (if you want interesting reading google "lords of Bakersfield or just get the book CRUEL JUSTICE) Has specifically told all Kern County Law enforcement to go after tint violators and they are aggressively going after shops that do the work.

The back three windows you can tint what ever you want. If you tint the front at all its illegal. To me if your going to do it go all the way. I tinted mine Limo all the way around. I thought that was cool until my friend told me he did double limo in is truck......

If your going to even tint just do it I have had my tint almost a year no tickets yet

I have 13% on the rear window and 5% on the quarter windows. It keeps the car a lot cooler in the summer and days like today 82 degrees.

Exactlly how I feel!

I had mine tinted at 18% front and 5% in the back windows. My wife got pulled over and the cop made her rip out the tint on the front windows. No ticket, no nothing. He didn't even ask for a driver's license. He just told her he would give her a $10,000 fine. I hate talking about it because I feel like he totally went overboard and harassed her! She begged him to wait until I got home and he cut the window tint with a razor blade and told her to get it done right then!

Even after all this, I am going to get them at 5% in the front now. Like he said, it's 100% illegal here, so why not get exactly what you want. If you want limo tint, but settle for less...you can still get in the same amount of trouble.

Just my 2 cents.

Nick, not sure about your theory about putting whatever you want (% of tint).
I think, if at least the Officer can look inside the vehicle, they'll be less prone to pull you over. Just my $.02

Very true. You might/probably have a better chance of not getting pulled over, but you still run the risk, so go for the gusto is what I'm saying.

All in all, it's just tint. Easily replacable.

Man that really sucks. One of the many reasons I want to move from this place. All the stuff that's going on in Los Angeles and he's all over her like that for TINT??
