Blackout panels - SHR vs. magnetic
Blackout panels - SHR vs. magnetic
I'm thinking about getting a rear blackout for my car and am wondering if anyone had any opinions on the SHR vs. the magnetic panel.
i love the look of the SHR piece but i've heard it's hard to keep clean. my car is a daily driver so i don't always have time to keep it as clean as i would like. (just being honest)
also, i might remove the panel in the future and go with blue stripes on my car. i'm thinking the magnetic panel would be easier to remove if i decided to do that.
any input?

i have had both on my car. the magnetic one looks fine, but you need to take it off often to clean behind it. it is definitely a temporary mod. if you are thinking stripes later, then that would be much easier to take off later.
while i am a huge fan of shr, the honeycomb panel didn't match the look i was going for. of course, it wasn't as easy to remove as the magnetic one was, but i was able to take if off cleanly... so, if you are possibly considering stripes later on, you don't have to necessarily rule these out.
as far as being hard to clean, as long as you have a soft bristle brush, it is not that bad.
in my case, after trying both, i am back to stock.

I have the SHR, to clean, just hit it with a high power hose sprayer. That gets most of the dirt out of the holes. As for magnetic, I would think it would scratch the paint underneath and if deep enough may lead to rusting.
The SHR one has weap holes for the water to drain out.
If you want stripes, wait and get the SHR one after they are painted on.

To me, there is no comparision at all. The SHR gives you the Old-School look and is a quality piece. The magnetic, is what it implies, temporary. The CDC is also a quality piece, but with a modern theme, and as noted, delete's the Faux Cap. Both SHR and CDC, are basically a perminent mod because of the strength of the 3M adhesive that is used. My SHR is a breeze to clean, unlike the front grille. To me it brings the car together, as I also have the GTAP option. So the honeycomb is very paramount on mine, and played a big role in my decision of what to do out back. Soo, your decision is not which one do you get, but what direction are you ready to go in.
I'm all for the CDC panel too. It looks great w/ the bezels painted to match, I put a little texture paint on underneath to keep a consistant look.
I had bought a magnetic to try it out before going with a more permanent one. The edges are a good fit, but the top edge sticks out due to the curve of the trunk.
Also around the gas cap you can see some red so the hole could be just a hair smaller. I'm sure some adjustment would make it look a little better, but once the magnet grabs the metal, it really doesn't slide so aligning takes a few tries.
My left bottom edge is a bit off and I know I had it aligned better than that yesterday. Makes me wonder if the bumpy roads make it move a little.

that plus a rattle can of Krylon Ultra Flat (black).
