The two black lines on the roof are not very noticeable on some of the darker cars, however on my Legend Lime it is kind of distracting. I was thinking of checking out having them painted to match the car. Has anyone else tried this?

I was thinking of having them painted for another reason..I've got a black GT and was thinking it would be nice to not have to avoid them when waxing the car.

I would think the paint would crack and flake off very easily.

Try some Zaino.....it doesn't matter if it gets on them.

It wouldn't be a problem at all to paint to match. They are just flat black aluminum strips. But you are still gonna have the black rubber around the edges that can't be painted (or shouldn't be more like it)

Dane, have you seen the 05 stang? They are not black aluminum. They are rubber. I checked mine out after first seeing this post. I guess I shouldn't say they are not aluminum, I am sure they are, however, they are coated with what is almost a rubber substance. I can't see paint being able to stick to that.

I have seen an '05....I happen to own one and I happen to own a body shop and I have also happened to take mine off to repaint the car. They are aluminum...yes coated with black (more like rubber than paint is true) butno problem to scuff and paint (making sure to mask off the rubber flaps on the edges tho) As long as the rubber isn't flexing a major amount it will be fine. But if you paint your's to match the lime.....you will still have the two black flaps along the side showing....so is it worth it??? I dunno it's up to you. Attached is a pic front and back of mine

It's not hard to match since I've got a black stang anyway. As far as the Zaino goes, can that be applied & removed with a random orbit buffer? I just got the porter cable 7424(I believe that's the model #) and I love using it.

Dane,
How do these come off? Were you able to get them off without bending them?
I took my car over to a collision shop to get an price on some paint work and he wasnt sure he would be able to get them off without bending them.

These were a little tricky to take off but no I didn't bend them. I took a really small 90 degree pick (nearly like a dental pick) and a flat plastic stick. First I went to the front and back edges and slid the pick in....and just pull up (those two came up pretty easy) then I slid the pick along the strip till I found the next clip.....then just push the strip sideways (towards center of car) and twist the outside egde up. Use the plastic stick for a little extra pry if needed. There are 4 clips 1 front (easy one) 1 rear (easy one) and 2 centered between those (tricky ones) Here's the tools I used

In terms of functionality I think these things work great - I drive with the windows down a LOT and i can't tell you how many times in other cars I have had when the car has water on it or you use windshield wiper fluid on the windshield while moving, and it runs right down intot he car through the open window - these channels really do direct the water away from the window bigtime - I was fairly impressed!
