Black billet GT grille available soon (no pony or fogs!)
Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with BBR, nor do I trust everything they say.
Here it goes:
It appears that Blow-By-Racing will offer a black (powdercoated) upper GT grille very soon (ETA 4 weeks). I've attached a photo of their current billet grille. The new one will have the exact same styling.
Here's my e-mail correspondence with them:
We have our new grilles being made now an should be on the shelf in 4 weeks - they will be a billet with black powder coat. Please call us with any questions - grilles will be same priced.
thank you

Dear Sirs,
I live in The Netherlands and I would like to purchase a LNR full replacement GTgrille (Part #: GT-BBR-SHELBY-U) for my 2005 Mustang GT.
Please let me know whether it's possible to have it shipped non-polished (or black), with the side pony already installed on it.

Here's the reply from CERVINIS on the same question. Apparently, they won't offer such a grille in black:
Hello. All grilles are pre-polished and cannot be shipped out another way. You could strip it when you get it and paint it if you like. Thank you

I've had that grille in my car for months now. I got it from a place in FL called Casey's Customs. I'd attach a pic but I'm trying to figure out the photo hosting bs. Why can't I just attach a pic? Stupid...
When you make a new post (or edit an old on... advanced edit) look below the "reply box" there's a section called Additional Options. Click on the button labeled Manage Attachments. A new window will pop up. (make sure pop up blockers are off) In that window you can Browse for the pics, then click upload, then close the window and they will be attached to your post.
Oh, duhh. I did the "quick reply". Anyway, here it is. Sorry, not the best pic, but you get the idea. It's a very high quality grille. I still need to find one of the old school emblems with the pony over top of the red/white/blue bars. It looks a little plain right now.
Gee thanks. You just HAD to post pics of it on a white car!
I had talked myself out of getting one of those since that style has been around for so long, but now I'm not so sure. Time to go back to the drawing board and see if I can photoshop that grille into a Roush front end.
Any more pics?
How does it install? Any drilling into the bumper cover?

IMO, the HC would look better no matter what, but it would look a lot better with the HC rear panel than the bars.
HOWEVER, I don't think anyone is coming out with a no fogs/pony HC grille anytime soon... if ever.

The 1970 Mach1, which was the first Mustang with the honeycomb tail panel, had a front grille with horizontal bars, not a honeycomb one.
On the 1971 Mach1 both tail panel and front grille were honeycomb.
Either way, you can't go wrong.

Install was a major PIA. First, remove the bumper cover, which is actually the easy part. The simple way would be to remove the factory grille and screw or rivet the billet grille to the bumper cover. I didn't do this becuase there would have been an large gap around the grille. I did it the hard way and took a recipro saw to the grille and removed the whole honeycomb. What was left was the outside ring wich I then riveted the grille to. That outside ring also has the male tabs that lock it into the bumper cover. Much more work, but it made for a cleaner look.
The pic is from before I had it powder coated semi-gloss black.
Well the black on my grill has striped off from bugs, sand or just road grit.
The fins are still on but the vertical pieces that hold the fins have had the black striped off.
It's a bummer for sure.
Too bad I just wanrt to drive not show

I purchased a billet grille originally from Casey's Customs. It was an absolute piece of crap. NEVER buy from them. The upper grille was supposed to be attached using brackets that wouldn't line up correctly and actually hit the pony in the center. The lower grille was supposed to be attached with ZIP TIES. And to add insult to injury, the pic they showed wasn't the same as the grille that showed up. Custom service was also a mess, as it finally took threats to get them to respond to numerous emails. I finally had another "professionally" installed by ideal automotive in Brandon, Fl. I love it and would recommend the upgrade on any V6.
