Billet Grille Insert.
Well, another post...couldn't help myself...sooo
Here's the situation:
I bought a black billet grille insert and installed it today. It looks nice, very nice, but because it attaches to the OEM grille, you can see it showing through the billet grille. At certain angles it doesn't look bad at all, but at other angles it makes me want to take it off.
I'm wondering if there's any way or anything I could do to hide the OEM grille behind the billet grille.
The only thing I could think of was maybe getting some small-holed wire mesh, paint it black, and install it in between the two grilles somehow.
The reason I didn't want to get a billet that completely replaced the old grille is because I didn't want to fork out the money. So I would like to figure out a way to modify the one I have to make it look better, but I don't know what to do. Any advice or idea is welcome. Thanks guys

The mesh is a good idea, however I would be concerned about blocking air flow. Post some pics of your grille so the rest of us can check it out. You may be the only one who notices and it may not be as bad as you think..
Just a thought..

Well....I'm probably not doin the right thing here lol. But I got some screen door material and sprayed it black, and lining the back of the grille with it. And hopefully it will cover it up enough so that you can't see the OEM grille.
I couldn't find any automotive metal mesh anywhere so I figured that it would be a good substitute. And I really don't have much time to be searching around. So we'll see how it goes!

Well I put on the mesh today. I put three layers on there. It looks perfect. Just enough to disguise the grille behind it, but still has decent airflow. I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

Okay here's the pictures. Sorry for the delay. I just now got time to get them up on here.
As you can see in the first picture the completed product. Before I put the screen material on there, you could see the OEM grille honeycomb and pony emblem outline behind the grille. The second picture shows the mesh behind the grille up close. and the third just shows one end of the grille. I havent noticed a difference in engine temp. so it seems as though it's still getting adequate airflow. Im definitely happy with the final product. Let me know if you guys have any questions. Oh and to your question...no you dont have to cut up the original grille. You only have to take the chrome pony out of it's seat in the grille.

Thanks! I really wasn't sure about it at first but it worked out well. I wish I had taken some pictures of the grille without the mesh backing to show you guys what it looked like.

Yeah it wasn't too bad I suppose. Been on my list for a long time now. It was worth the time making it look good. Wasn't too expensive either. Got the upper and lower grille combo for $110 shipped from ebay, $5 for paint, $10 for screen mesh, and some wire cutters and some elbow grease. $110 is good compared to the $155 from AmericanMuscle.
