Did the exact thing you are thinking about. Bought a lower grill online so I could keep the stock grill. Took out all the honeycomb to open up the grill more. Sanded and primed and painted with factory matched paint. Sanded again and clear coated 4 times. The stock grill pops out ,but be careful not to break off the tabs. New painted lower grilled just snapped into place. I think it gives it a more aggressive look. Looking to do the same to the upper grill soon.

I got another idea. Simply remove your Lower Grille come June and get some GT/CS Grille Inserts. They will simply plug the Outer Grille Area leaving your already painted bumper exposed. part# 17e810

Just had mine done. I was getting the CDC ducktail painted, so I had them paint the lower grill too. Props to 05GT-OCD for giving me the idea.

I had mine done at the same time as the CDC spoiler, the mirrors and the antenna delete.

I opted to go for high gloss black. Before and after shots.

So what are you doing for an antenna?

Also, how does it look where they painted it - was it expensive? I was thinking of ditching the GT emblems for clean sides

Thanks

I'm using the Metra amplified windshield mounted antenna. It gives better reception then the stock antenna. You can get them from Crutchfield for about $20.

I used a knurled **** screw in the antenna hole after I had it removed until I got it filled and painted. The body shop did an excellent job, you can't tell there was an antenna there at all, and the color match was perfect.

Here are instructions on how to do the antenna delete:
