I hate the tires too, but I'm going to burn them into the ground while waiting for ford to release their 18in for 06.

Yeah, 17's look so small on the 05. They'll probably be better on the v6 than the 16's.

Muzzy,
I too don't really like that Ford decided to go cheap with the stock rubber. 255/50/17's would fit perfectly on the same rim and actually be wider than the 04's on down by 10mm, but they probably would have run Ford an extra $40 or more per car. It is unfortunate they cut corners here, because a wider tire really makes this car look so much better. I think if/when I can buy one, I'll try to make some kind of deal to get the stock rubber replaced with 255/50/17's before delivery.

I dont mind the 17 inch wheel. I just can't see sticking the 300 hp to the ground with such skinny tires with an all season thread!!!

These tires are very good (not GREAT) all around tires. They aren't a bad choice to put on your ENTRY LEVEL V8.

They handle predictably. Too much so for the enthusiast who wants the tire to give its FULL grip up until the edge, then break cleanly. These start to give early, so they transmit that you are near the edge much earlier than a full blown performance tire. Good for average Joes.

Burn'm down, then upgrade.

But 255/50-17 doesn't give you the same breadth of perfomance tires... there just isn't a lot of choice out there in that size.

I don't think most car dealers will fool around with "take-offs", but
you can prolly find a high volume tire shop that will give you credit.
My dealer said their service department won't even consider it!

needs these

I read the review on Tirerack for the tires that come on the 05, and almost everyone thrashes them. They are a horrible tire, and very dissapointing by Ford.

255/50/17's are pretty big tires. Really wide for the front. I would rather get no larger than 245 for the front. Would that actually work?

I have the kumhos 255/50/17 in waiting. They are a pretty good tire ! Bf goodrich, bridgestone, fuzion are also selling on tire rack in that size. To answer the question for the poster that thinks 255' r too big. No way. the 255 that come stock on 95 cobra really handle great!. the 04 cobra comes with 275's but on a 9 inch wheel

The reviews I see for the '05 GT tire on the website look very positive. Can you point to some specific posts that showed less than satisfactory experiences?

Where is this picture from, and whose car is it? I just ordered the Magnaflow axleback system from Partshopper, and will be arriving tomorrow. Just curious as to whose ride this is so I can possibly get feedback on sound, and ease of installation.

And on the subject of tires... I also am looking at the 255/50/17 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 Ultra High Performance Summer for my replacement tires. I need a bit more rubber on the road.

Man, I sure like that exhaust. Gonna have to add that to my list. I will be putting 285 or 295's in the rear and 265's in the front. Still trying to figure out what RIMS I want and if I want 18's or 20's....

I agree. The stock tires on my '05 look a bit wimpy, although performance wise they do a very admirable job. I plan on holding out until Ford offers the 18" wheels, at which point I will upgrade. I really like the look of 255/45/18's on this car. Hopefully Ford Racing will offer something sooner.
