How about none of the above???
I had the same questions last year. After researching them all, I chose Continental Extreme Contact All Season. My size (all around) was 270/40/18.
For wet and light winter driving, these tires worked flawlessly. I never had any problem, even in light snow, although I admit, I avoided driving during heavy snow. I have driven through a couple of HEAVY rainstorms and these things cut the water like a dream... Excellent choice for winter months...
Now the bad part. It is spring now and as the temps warm, they feel really soft around corners causing me to drive sane all the time, and that blows...
I am about to the point to drop the $$$ for a set of Nitto 555's. I just miss tight handling and figure once winter comes again, I can drop the money to swap them out again. Since the main purpose of an "all season tire" is to use rubber that does not get really firm, and as such, unsafe in winter, there is a give and take that makes them not as fun once it gets hot.
Because they are so soft, they do scream easily when you punch it!
Hope this helps...
